We were afraid of the negative reviews over the course of the summer, so I worked with the property manager to ensure things went smoothly, as we were there with a group for a corporate event that I could not afford to go badly. Ella Homes worked with me to make sure extra care was taken in cleaning the unit so that it was up to standard. That being said, the outside area was still missing some of the standard we were looking for. Pool clean enough to swim in but only if you were willing to clean out the leaves / debris with the pool net yourself. There is also a childrens barricade around the perimeter of the pool, which makes the main photo of the listing look a bit misleading. The location of the unit is about a 15 min drive from the coast of huntington beach, but does sit next to the 405 freeway which makes commuting in and out of the house convenient. All in all, this was a very comfortable place to stay. I was extremely afraid to stay here given the recent reviews but was told those reviews are from people who were unable to document any evidence and are in dispute with the property managers. Definitely some hiccups, but nothing that made the place unable to stay in and we felt very safe during our stay.

NIGHTMARE STAY LUXURY? MORE LIKE A BIOHAZARD

We stayed from 7/25–8/04/25. We booked early expecting luxury before and after our daughters’ softball tournament. Instead, we got an overpriced, disgusting property that should never be listed. The yard was dead, bugs were everywhere—beetles, crickets, spiders. Inside: filthy floors, foul smell, maggots in the dishwasher, which reeked like rotting fish and wasn’t installed properly. No hot water in the kitchen—we had to boil water to wash dishes. Trash bins were full and smelled like death. No washcloths, beach towels, or proper bath towels. Sheets were crusty—we did laundry at 1:30 a.m. after traveling all day. No hangers, vacuum, cleaning supplies, or plungers. The pool was dirty and had no vacuum—we were told the previous guests “stole it.” Host told us to throw in chlorine tabs and not swim for three days. A dead rat sat outside the kitchen slider for 11 days—reported and ignored. A possum showed up nightly. Visible mold on the outdoor sink. Two “bedrooms” weren’t real—one had glass doors, the other was only accessible through another room. Sinks didn’t drain, no hot water at the bar sink. A city code enforcement officer showed up mid-stay. In the garage: 3 unopened certified letters marked FINAL NOTICE. Listing says 10 guests—permit allows 8. Host owns the “cleaning company.” Complaints went nowhere. We requested a refund; she denied everything. I filed a formal complaint with Vrbo.

We got scammed. Prior to travel, I happened to see some new reviews two other recent travelers had made about the cleanliness and safety. I reached out immediately to the host and was assured the property was clean and safe.We arrived to find mouse poop in one shower, hair and grime in the bathtub, crust on one toilet, caked food on serving utensils, hairs in the main bathroom, and very dirty windows. The outside of the home looks like construction is in process: trash and dead plants in the garden beds, and debris covering the patio. All trash cans outside were full/overflowing. Animal feces on the back patio. Pool was absolutely unusable when we arrived due to algae/moss growing all over the bottom and sides of the pool. There are additional items on the property that need to be attended to and show that the owners are negligent in their care for the property:-Dishwasher is improperly installed and rocks forward when the door opens. Safety hazard and risk of dishes breaking-No garbage can in main bath-Dirty utensils-No working lights in room w double beds-Bath mats in two bathrooms dirtyThe hosts were unresponsive the entirety of our stay. They sent a kind but incompetent person out after several messages. He swept the patio but did not address our concerns. The owners continued to politely apologize (chat gpt style) for our inconvenience but told us they had done “everything they could” to address our concerns (gas lighting). So frustrating to lied to.

Grime/mildew covered entirety of pool. The owners never cleaned this.

False room descriptions and dangerous backyard- trash, glasses and debris everywhere

This place is a dump. We were a group of 4 different families. Two “bedrooms” on the right of the house are not bedrooms and did not offer adequate privacy. One had windows for doors and the other had no exist to the main living space except through another "bedroom". Neither had closet space.The backyard was filthy upon our arrival. Debris everywhere including glass! My daughter got glass in her foot and is now on antibiotics and we believe some glass shards may still be in her foot!The front yard has trash on the lawn- used Q-tip and cigarettes.The garbage can smelled of vomit even after emptied. We gagged as we move it up the driveway.There were no pool towels!! Limited very thin and stained bath towels. This did not provide for a comfortable stay. We had to purchase pool towels at the Albertsons.No working dishwasher as stated.One paper towel roll was provided and NO dish towels. The washing machine had an empty bottle of detergent, the freezer was clogged with ice and ice flew out onto the floor every time the freezer was opened. Annoying to have to pickup ice, but even more annoying with no kitchen towels to wipe floor. Windows to the backyard were filthy and hard to see out to the back.No hair conditioner was provided. One bathroom didn’t have a toilet paper holder. The grill area was filthy and appeared unusable. I contacted host and she has not responded in 4 days.

The home itself was beautiful, well-stocked, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The host was extremely responsive and attentive, which we really appreciated.However, we did have two major issues during our stay. First, the pool was not properly cleaned—the pool guy came but didn’t do a thorough job. More importantly, the house had a serious spider problem. We were constantly killing spiders throughout the weekend, which made it hard to fully relax. The property really needs to be professionally sprayed and treated for pests.This home has great potential, and with better pest control and pool maintenance, it could be a perfect stay.
