We stayed in unit 606 in The Villages complex at the Mauna Lani/Fairmont Orchid resorts. The unit was large and spacious and comfortably handled our (at maximum) 6 person group, including one 2nd grader and 5 adults ranging in age from 37 to 66. The owners, Richard and Heidi, communicated key information prior to our arrival and even left more information for us when we arrived. The unit looked as advertised. There were plenty of kitchen items (except for a meat thermometer, which we purchased and donated to the unit), towels, linens, extra blankets and pillows etc. When we arrived the on location property manager was not familiar with how to set the ice maker on, how the dishwasher worked and forgot to turn back on the hot water. I worked with the owner, Richard, and got all these issues resolved right away. Access to the private beach club was easy - but we recommend getting there before 9:30 if you want to get one of provided lounge chairs. There is also a small pool and spa within walking distance as well as a well-equipped gym, for which you need to sign up (but same day times were almost always available). Other nice beaches were just a short drive away, for which you will need beach chairs and an umbrella. The house only had one workable beach chair, so we purchased two more (and donated them to the house). When we left, the property manager said he could have provided more if we had asked him (but that didn't do us any good because he should have told us on day 1). There is also a good beach umbrella and boogie board and snorkeling gear for about 4 people. We stayed for a long time - 7 weeks - so probably cooked more than most guests would - and everything worked fine. The appliances are about 20+ years old, but worked OK. The furniture was quite comfortable, and the property is very tastefully decorated. The beds all got 4 stars from our family. The Big Island was quite crowded when we were there and restaurant reservations were hard to get so I recommend you make your reservations about 30 days out from when you expect to eat. Part of that is due to Hawaii Covid rules and the fact that many restaurants either did not reopen or were only open to resort guests. We felt we got great value for our money and can't recommend the owners Richard and Heidi enough for their thoughtfulness and hospitality.
