The views from Holly Bank are amazing and truly gold star. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the house. Several things let it down for us. The biggest issue was the fact that there is no mention of a public right of way in the description. While sitting in bed with a cup of tea admiring the view in the morning were startled on several occasions by the appearance of people walking directly past the the window!
The dining chairs in the kitchen and conservatory were falling apart. One gave way while our son was holding his 5 month old daughter, no injuries but could have been worse.
The decking outside the kitchen and conservatory is very slippery and rotten in places.
There is a large area of damp on the wall by the window in the main bedroom.
We didn’t use the summerhouse as the view is obscured by the trees in front of it.
The boot room is more of a wood store, full of spiders and not accessible directly from within the house.
On the positive side. The views from the house and conservatory are stunning, with Skiddaw to the left and Bassenthwaite lake to the front.
The sunset over the lake one evening was incredible.
We saw red squirrels in the garden, numerous wild birds and could hear owls all around at night time.
The Sun Inn, just 10 minutes walk into the village, is friendly and serves good food and real ale. Keswick and Cockermouth are a 15 minute drive away with good selection of shops and eateries. Good market in Keswick on Thursday and Saturday.
We were a party of 6 adults, one baby and 3 dogs and the property accommodated all of us comfortably.
