It was obvious no one from the rental company went to spruce up the house prior to our arrival. Rugs outside were tattered and dirty, inside entry rugs along with all bathroom rugs were very dirty. We had to hunt for bathroom washcloths, as not every bathroom had them. There was only one hair dryer for the entire house. As for the kitchen, it was stated to be well stocked, it was not. The cooking items that were there were just old and worn. There was only one wineglass and some very small stem glasses. We had to call the rental company to ask for dish cloths and dish towels. They did deliver brand new ones later that evening along with a package of Oreos. When I called the rental company I also told them none of the windows had the cranks on them that were needed in case of a fire. Two of the bedrooms did not have a sliding door, so the cranks were needed in order to open a window. I was assured this would be addressed by maintenance. They asked me to text a detailed message about the crank handles and a contact number, which I did. Never heard from them, so we went to Menards and bought one for each bedroom. We tried to use the fireplace, but when it was turned on, the smoke alarms went off. The bathroom towels in the downstairs master bathroom smelled like mildew. We ended up washing them, hoping to make them smell a little better. It did not work. We have used VRBO for many years and have never had any issues like this.
