The apartment is in a good location and initially the communication with the host was good. We only stayed for a night, but there were things that I didn't like and would prevent me from staying there again. I stayed at 4 different VRBO while in Portugal. I recognize the homes are older, but the bathroom and bedroom doors didn't close. The guests were asked to dispose of their own trash. This doesn't seem like a huge deal, but there are 4 steep flights of stairs. Only being there one night, I didn't have much, but not even being able to throw a tissue out was inconvenient. There were no directions for operating the heat and the host did not respond to text messages requesting instructions. It was very cold in the apartment in February, and the beds were uncomfortable and we did not sleep well at all. The message about the heat was sent at 8:30 pm and we were asked to message when we arrived. we sent the request about operating the heat at the same time as our arrival, but only received a response the next day after we checked out saying sorry we missed your message.
