    Entering from the ground floor, guests can easily store rented bicycles – a wonderful advantage for those who wish to ride along Lucca’s famous Renaissance walls. Upstairs, the apartment opens into a bright living area with a dining table, a compact yet functional kitchen, and a comfortable lounge with TV and VPN access. The living area is air-conditioned, ensuring a pleasant stay even during the warmer months.

We spent 7 nights at Casa Lilla and enjoyed our stay very much. The location is good, it is light with plenty of space, extremely clean, there was plenty of hot water. Note - there were only two of us. And we did not use the washing machine. The apartment is on a road which gets some traffic early in the morning but it did not disturb us. We were very pleased that the contact phone number was always answered pleasantly by Elisa and she answered all our questions. I would suggest a few improvements: 1) the mattress in the main bedroom was good, but the bedframe was very noisy so I woke up every time I turned over. Maybe the frame is old? 2) The shower is very small - it would be helpful to have a little shelf to put soap on 3) It was strange to have a bathroom where you can't open the window. We had to dry some of our towels upstairs on the drying rack. If there had been 4 of us this would have been a problem 4) Kitchen scissors would be useful 5) We only used one bedroom but the second one has almost no storage.

Elisa was wonderful, helpful, very responsive and fun - even helping me practice my Italian. Air conditioning worked well, and what a treat to have a washer plus the terrace for drying. Short walk to Conad City and several smaller markets. Rent a bike with a basket for shopping at Essalunga just outside the wall to the north. Reminder: don’t buy more than you can carry! The kitchen is small but functional, though I would add more vessels for oven use, bowls for fruit/salad/serving, and a set of wooden spoons/spatula. Maybe most guests aren’t there long enough to cook, but I stayed 11 days and dined in several nights. Some of the exterior shutters only swing open, not up, but that’s part of the old world charm. I love the old windows with both internal and external shutters. A portable fan would be helpful to move air while windows are closed. The house is on a rather busy street and the VRBO map is off by a few blocks. Don’t miss cacio pepe at Da Vasco’s near Porto Santa Maria, and say hello to the lovely Julietta at Bar Martini

Rent a bike with a basket for shopping at Essalunga just outside the wall to the north. Reminder: don’t buy more than you can carry! The kitchen is small but functional, though I would add more vessels for oven use, bowls for fruit/salad/serving, and a set of wooden spoons/spatula.
