The weeks prior to this stay were incredibly stressful due to wildfires in the area that caused road closures and hazardous air quality conditions. Since half the group was traveling from out of state, we tried working with the Property owner to reschedule. The property owner was not accommodating and we were forced to decide between going or cancelling without a refund or reschedule.
The day prior to our stay, conditions improved drastically and the group decided to make the trip. The property was lovely, well stocked, and in a beautiful location. There was some construction taking place next door, but it did not generally impact our stay.
Fortunately, the air was fairly clear and while most trails were closed west of the lodge (active fires / very smoky conditions), we were able to hike some routes to the east. Mazama and Winthrop were nearly empty due to the fires and Route 20 closed again the day before we left.
We were fortunate and had a great weekend; however, we could just have easily been stuck in our cabin due to hazardous air quality conditions. Not an ideal gamble to make when traveling cross country / driving 5-hours to the destination.
Highly recommend "cancel for any reason" insurance for this property.
