I’m very sorry about that Robin, I don’t know how that got overlooked. We maintain very high standards for cleanliness and have never ever had a complaint about anything. I wish you had told me when you first noticed it and I would have rectified it immediately. As I told you by text yesterday, I will issue a refund for the night you left early. I find it most unfortunate that I am having to respond to this review, I should have canceled the reservation when it was made as I was advised to by the Guest’s relatives. The rental was for 2 adults and one child. This was clarified by email and in a phone call from the Guest. In his phone call, he made no mention of wanting to bring extra people, he asked if they could put up a tent as his son might want to stay in it, to which I said sure, fine. There was no “flipping”. It was after 10:00 and I was in my front yard feeding some baby lambs I have on bottles. A car was at the Retreat with its headlights shining toward the door and I could see several adults (with their bags) and 2 dogs entering the house. I waited for them to leave but they didn’t, in which case I walked over and knocked on the door. I did not enter the house, I stayed on the landing. I spoke to no one but the Guest, asking that he remove the dogs and that our agreement had been for him and his mom and his son. He was belligerent and kept trying to shut the door in my face. He announced “I’m outta here” and he and one of the other adult males stormed out with the dogs. I told the one remaining guy, go ahead and stay. I was so dismayed and upset by his actions that I immediately called VRBO and reported the incident and asked for advice. I was told I could cancel the reservation but I wanted no further confrontation or interaction with the people. I did go to the sheriff’s office the next day and ask them to do some drivebys that night, as this is a dead end road and there are no other neighbors. I never went back near the cottage in fear of reprisal. I provide my guests with the utmost privacy. They are able to contact me if they need anything, otherwise, they are all to themselves. Folks come here for privacy and they get it. I do not “poke around” nor do I “peek through the shrubs” or “hover”. These accusations are false. I am a Superhost on Airbnb and have excellent reviews on both sites, never before having an issue with a guest. I hope that this inaccurate review will not dissuade potential guests, as it is truly a beautiful place and experience.
