Our stay was plagued with miscommunication and drama from the beginning. The owners, who were quite nice, were also a near-constant presence on the property. We were told they were trying to finish work on some fountains near the front of the property - they hoped to be done with them before we arrived, but if not, they would complete it soon.
We weren't prepared this meant they and a work crew would be working on the property literally every single day of our stay - either working on that project, inexplicably planting new shrubs/plants inside the pool room, working on the sprinkler systems, etc.
Each day was a new experience: communicating with the owners our daily schedule so that they might attempt to conduct their work while we were absent (this unfortunately didn't happen), trying to shower while dodging the owners/workmen mere feet outside the window (no curtains or blinds), receiving all manner of contractors scheduled by the owners during the stay (pool man, sprinkler man, etc.) - all the while attempting to comply with the owners' restriction against noise at night (odd, given the isolation of the house, but presumably meant to not disturb the groundskeeper/handyman who literally lives inside the home in a room at the top of the stairs).
We were able to experience leaking pipes not once but twice (two separate areas of the home), the removal of wet carpet, sprinklers spraying into our open windows at 1am, and the general unease of not knowing when or where the owners would show up next. To alleviate boredom we amused ourselves by trying to pinpoint all the security cameras the owners have installed IN THE HOME. We're pretty sure we found MOST of them.
Certainly the strangest and most disturbing VRBO stay we've ever experienced. In retrospect, it's clear both we and the owners would have been happier had we chosen a different property.
