Communication was perfect. We had an issue with a door lock and after sending a quick text, Vacasa was very prompt responding, maintaining good communication until the issue was resolved. The house was very clean and the sun room made it a wonderful retreat. It was an easy commute to Cadillac Mountain for sunrise. Our only suggestions would be: One, an updated shower head. Its very high and only tilts so far so it hits the wall and not the person. Two, window coverings. Even though the area is secluded, we would have liked the option to cover the windows at the sink, the kitchen table, the kitchen/entryway door, and especially the hall, since it large and sits right outside of the bathroom.

Coastal Escape

We had a wonderful family vacation at this beautiful Mount Desert home. We loved being able to step out the back door to swim at high tide, watch sunsets, enjoy a fire, and play yard games in great weather. The location felt private yet convenient, and the thoughtful touches throughout made it cozy and inviting. The house has plenty of natural light and very comfortable spaces. As others have noted, cell signal was spotty and the Wi-Fi wasn’t strong enough for remote work as I had hoped, so I needed to make trips into town—which was a nice excuse to visit a local coffee shop. The host was communicative and helpful. Overall, a charming and relaxing spot perfect for a family getaway!

We had a lovely visit at the property. This family has taken the theme for Dory Haven to a really nice standard. It was a great location for our trip to the National Park and Bar Harbor.

Place was a nice gem tucked away from busy Bar Harbor. We enjoyed watching the stars and the sunsets from the covered patio. Only mild complaint is the door does not lock from the inside so our toddler would try to escape every chance he got. Additionally it was not per se toddler friendly but what really is as an vacation rental. All and all a great stay and we would come back. Also make sure you open the upstairs windows in summer otherwise it will be rather hot.

Winter Wonderland

Been to Maine in the summer with family the past 12 years. Always wondered what it would be like in the winter. Now I know… just as beautiful as the summer with way less people lol!Dory Haven was perfect location and accommodations lovely for a weekend getaway.

Wonderful Getaway

Perfect place for getting away and back to nature. Great 4-season porch overlooking the cove. Quiet, comfortable, cozy. Bed and stove could be updated.

Everything great except for communication

We absolutely loved this property. It was so tranquil and the view of the cove was beautiful at all hours. The issues that we encountered were with communication. The listing when we booked over a year prior to our trip said that the property was pet friendly, which has since changed. Thankfully, we were still allowed to bring our pup, but it took significant effort and time to get clarification which was quite stressful. Also during our stay there was an issue with a lock on an exterior door and they sent someone to repair the issue without communicating this - it was really upsetting to return with someone inside the rental without being notified prior.

Needs Maintenance and Care

The view and yard were the best things about this rental. The house needs attention and upkeep that would have made our stay so much more pleasant. 1) The bed in the primary bedroom was so squeaky (from old box springs) that I moved to the second bedroom so my wife and I didn't wake each other up when one of us moved. Vacasa noted the bed was old. So why did the owners not replace it? There was also no mattress cover on the mattress. 2) The 2 front burners on the stove were broken. Vacasa said the lighters were broken and they hadn't been able to replace them. This is something they should have communicated to us so that we knew when we tried to cook. 50% of the burners were not working and they didn't think they should tell us? 3) The 2 skylights in the bedrooms are not usable. One had no screen and the other one was broken. How hard is this to fix? 4) The shower head did not fit the shower; you had to stand sideways, otherwise your face was literally 3" from the back of the shower. And I am a small person! 5) The toilet was loose and rocked every time you sat on it. Vacasa's response: "The plumber used a new type of seal and it doesn't prevent it from sliding." If this is the case, Vacasa needs a new plumber. Other issues: the locks on the door from outside to the sunroom were broken and no toilet paper holder. Come on owners, take some care of your house! The gist of our dismay is that there are simple fixes that should have been done.

Enjoyed, but had a few surprises

The house was beautifully situated on the water, but we couldn’t access it easily. There was no dock or stairs. The house had AC but only in the upstairs bedrooms (in all honesty the listing might have said this), but I wasn’t expecting the downstairs to be so hot. The one fan we had only worked on low, so really wasn’t much help. The evenings cooled off nicely and with the porch windows open the temp was better downstairs. I really loved the screened room, it got a delightful breeze and was perfect for reading overlooking the water. We contacted the property manager about the slow internet and fan, they were responsive but it didn’t fix the challenge (They said they’d drop off another fan but didn’t). Be advised that cell service is poor on the whole island and internet in the house doesn’t work well enough to even use.

Peaceful Oasis

Enjoyed staying on the “quiet side” of MDI. Loved the sun porch and yard overlooking the pond. A very comfortable place to relax and unwind.

Exceeded Expectations

This was a first visit to Acadia. The location was ideal for everything we had planned. The Visitor center was within an easy drive where we could park and explore the park. With Dory Haven as our base, it provided not only a beautiful place to rest, but was comfortable and above what we expected. The bedrooms were spacious as was the downstairs living area. The porch doubled the space of the house and easily became a favorite for meals. I’m ready to come back.

Wonderful!

We were traveling with our teenager and one yr old. The water access gave plenty to do while home and Acadia/ Bar Harbor are close enough we went there several times. A wonderful stay!

Beautiful waterfront property

This was a great place. Very roomy yet a cozy feeling as well. Loved the sun room which had a beautiful dining table, comfortable sofa and rocking chair. My husband and I spent a lot of time in this room. The view of the water was beautiful. This was on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island which is where we love to stay. Highly recommend.

Great stay on MDI

Dory Haven is a great place to stay on MDI. Close enough to everything but far enough away from the high traffic areas. The house is the perfect size for a small family. It is clean and well stocked. The porch overlooking the pond is so nice. Bedrooms and living areas are comfortable and well kept. Mosquitos are bad, especially on hot, humid days down by the water so bring bug spray. Something missing from the listing is that there are room AC units in the bedrooms. I contacted Vacasa to ask if there was AC based on previous comments but they said no so this should be updated for accuracy.
