The Round House at Wiseman’s Retreat

Couples and small families, meet your Linville Falls retreat.

The Round House is a real 1970s farm silo, reborn as a two story hideaway with curved walls, no corners and a whole lot of character. It is one of two homes at Wiseman`s Retreat, a five acre mountain property right at the entrance to Linville Falls. Walk to the falls trails in the morning, walk to supper at Famous Louise`s Rock House at night.

SLEEPING
Two queen bedrooms on the second floor sleep 4 comfortably. A queen sleeper sofa in the open living area on the ground floor adds room for 2 more, perfect for kids.

BATHROOMS
Full bath with a tub and shower upstairs, plus a half bath downstairs. Towels, toilet paper, soap and shampoo provided.

KITCHEN
Electric range, microwave, drip coffee maker, toaster, pots, pans and all the cooking utensils you need. Ground coffee, tea, cooking oil and a well stocked spice shelf to get you started. No dishwasher.

COMFORT
Fast fiber wifi, electric baseboard heat, window AC units and fans. There is no washer or dryer at the Round House.

OUTSIDE
Your own private deck with a rock fireplace, a wood and charcoal grill, and seating. Gravel parking right by the house for 2 cars. The barrel sauna, cool plunge and large fire pit belong to the Wiseman House next door. When the Wiseman House is not booked, you can add them to your stay for a fee. Just ask us.

DOGS
Up to 2 dogs welcome for $150 per stay. No dogs on furniture or beds, and please crate them if left alone.

GOOD TO KNOW
We love hosting families. The bedrooms are upstairs, and the property is unfenced near NC Hwy 183, so please supervise children inside and out at all times. Cell service is spotty, so connect to the wifi and turn on wifi calling. Black bears live in these mountains, so never leave food or trash outside. The Wiseman House next door is a separate rental and may host another group. In winter, keep the baseboard heaters on low, never off, so the pipes don`t freeze. No parties or events, and quiet hours are 10 PM to 8 AM.

THE AREA
Linville Falls trails are a short walk away, including Erwins View Trail with four overlooks of the falls and gorge. After Hurricane Helene the visitor center was removed and some trails are closed, so check with park rangers for current access. Famous Louise`s Rock House is a minute away, a 1936 stone building where three county lines run through the dining room. Linville Falls General Store is down the road for supplies, pizza and ice cream. Catch a trout at Banks Creek Barn, taste wine at Linville Falls Winery, and watch for the Brown Mountain Lights from Wiseman`s View. Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock are all an easy drive. Stock up on groceries on the way in.

Traveling with a bigger group? Book the historic 1890s Wiseman House next door too. It sleeps 16, and together the two homes welcome up to 20.

THE BASICS

Check-in is 3:00 PM. Check-out is 11:00 AM.
Maximum 6 overnight guests. Only guests on the reservation may stay overnight.
No parties or events. Daytime visitors beyond your group need our approval first.
Quiet hours are 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. The Wiseman House next door may host a separate group, so please keep voices and music down outside at night.
No smoking or vaping inside the house or on the deck.

DOGS

Up to 2 dogs are welcome with a $150 pet fee per stay. Please tell us before you arrive.
No dogs on furniture or in beds.
Dogs must be house trained and crated if left alone at the house.
The property is not fenced and sits right on NC Hwy 183. Keep dogs on a leash or under close watch whenever they are outside.
Please pick up after your dog. Extra cleaning or damage from pets may be charged.
Service animals are always welcome at no charge.

SAUNA, COOL PLUNGE AND LARGE FIRE PIT

The barrel sauna, cool plunge and large fire pit / lawn area belong to the Wiseman House.
When the Wiseman House is not booked, you can add them to your stay for a fee. Just ask us. If you do, the posted rules apply: children with an adult at all times, no one under 12 in the sauna, no glass or alcohol in the sauna, sessions of 15 to 20 minutes.

DECK AND ROCK FIREPLACE

Fires only in the rock fireplace on the deck. Never leave a fire unattended.
Put the fire out completely with water before you go to bed.
No fires on windy days or during a burn ban.
Use only the firewood we provide or firewood bought locally.
Turn off the grill when you are done.

KIDS AND SAFETY

Families are welcome! The two floors are connected by stairs, so please keep a close eye on little ones.
The yard is not fenced and sits close to NC Hwy 183. Never let children play near the road.
Black bears live in these mountains. Never leave food or trash outside. Use the trash bins by the garage and secure the lid with the bungee cord so animals can`t get in.
Park by the Round House on the gravel parking area. Up to 2 cars. Do not block the driveway or the road.
Septic system: only toilet paper in the toilets. No wipes, paper towels or feminine products.
Please tell us right away if anything breaks. Accidents happen. Damage beyond normal wear may be charged.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Wash your dishes.
Put all trash in tightly closed bags in the outdoor trash bins, and make sure the lid is secured.
Leave used towels in the bathtub.
Make sure the deck fireplace is fully out and the grill is off.
Turn the window AC units off. In winter, set the baseboard heaters to low.
Close the windows and lock the doors. That`s it. Our cleaning team handles the rest.
