Explorer House is Great!!
We were looking for a little get-away and Explorer House provided us with a clean and safe jumping off place. Starting the day with terrific brunches, created and served by our hosts, Deanna and Alec, we were nourished until dinner. Deanna answered all our questions on recommended places to shop and relax and all proved out to be excellent. Yes, we highly recommend Explorer House to anyone looking for a great place to stay.

Lovely spacious room with lots of amenities and a comfy bed. Tasty plentiful home- cooked breakfast. Great location for the Old Town, local walks and trips to the Falls. Friendly hosts providing lots of travel tips and local advice. We especially enjoyed the hot tub.

The property is absolutely gorgeous and tranquil. The owners are exceptional hosts. This is our 2nd time staying here. We would definitely recommend. Oh, and the breakfast!!!! The best, by far, of any bed & breakfast that we’ve stayed at! Scrumptious!!

We came as a couple to NOTL for a wine tour and stayed at the Explorer House, mid July. This place is amazing, I'd definitely stay here again. Everything is extremely clean and well kept. You can tell the hosts are meticulous and care about their property. They are well organized and made us feel at home. Nice big bathroom attached to our room. Comfortable king size bed. There is a common area with everything you may need for the stay, fridge, dishes, glasses, coffee, cutlery, etc... The backyard has a large space available to us, with a comfortable sitting area and a hot tub. The landscaping is gorgeous. On top of all of that, the breakfast part of this B&B is amazing. The eggs benedict are the best I ever had. The explorer theme is all across the house, with professional photos taken by the host of all sorts of sceneries from other countries. Amazing place!

Explorer House provides a TOP NOTCH experience from before arrival till the moment you leave. Excellent communication and concern for dietary needs. Fabulous breakfasts. Friendly, knowledgable and helpful hosts. The property inside and outside is immaculate - beautiful grounds open to guests, comfortable common area, very comfortable, quiet en suite rooms. This property a house in a residential area which is home to a retired couple who the run the business side themselves. The property is tastefully decorated based on the owners' world travels and the artwork was impressive. The condition of the facilities was good. The room we reserved included a jacuzzi bathtub and door opening to a back deck. The location is walking distance from old town Niagara Falls. The room was clean and the Wifi was robust. A food basket is delivered to your door at 9am. Check-out is at 10:30am. This is not a hotel / motel and lacks more practical amenities for similarly priced lodging. You have to muscle any heavy luggage up 2 flights of stairs as there is no elevator. The shared outdoor spa is not large enough for more than 2 adults. You may not bring guests without approval of the owners. Food must be ordered the day before or you don't eat (even though you paid for it). Privacy is a concern because, from the hallway, we could hear another couple... well... we could hear them... and they were not loud. The ugly part of our stay is how the owners treated my girlfriend. I didn't bother with the food order as we changed our departure time. She asked about some breakfast on our departure and owner's response was very rude... "we didn't get our order in". They could have easily accommodated us, but instead made it a negative experience. We scrambled to check out as soon as possible and, ate at Tim Hortons and decided never to return.

We are disappointed to hear that you didn't fully enjoy your stay. We wish you all the best in finding a hotel that will meet your requirements next time. A few points/comments for those reading this review: - Yes we are a Bed & Breakfast (hence our name Explorer House Bed & Breakfast) and as such it is our home - as is all Bed & Breakfasts in Niagara-on-the-Lake. - The outdoor spa (hot-tub), which they did not use, seats 6 persons and is 7ft by 7ft. - Guest space is on the 2nd floor - not 2 fights up but 1 with a landing half way up. As a private home we do not have an elevator. - For the comfort of all guests, guest space is for registered guests only. - With regards to breakfast, everything is made fresh starting at 7:30am for a 9am breakfast service. The guest originally advised that they were leaving at 3am for an early flight, we offered them a breakfast to go package but they declined. They then emailed us at 3:22am and advised "we didn't get back to the property until 2am, we decided to change our flight to later in the day. No need to worry about breakfast." So we took them at their word and did not make breakfast for them. Given the request for breakfast came at 10:05am and check-out is at 10:30 there was no time to make a breakfast which we would have been starting from scratch. Never mind the fact that we were already assisting other guests whom where getting ready to depart.

This place is amazing from check in to check out and floor to ceiling. They thought of every detail. Last time we stayed pre COVID we joined other guests in the dining room for a delicious homemade breakfast. This time we got the same homemade breakfast to enjoy in a private space done beautifully in a picnic basket. This will be the only place we ever stay when we visit NOTL.

We loved everything about this B & B. The location was great, close enough to the downtown area of NOTL to drive there in a few minutes, but on a very quiet cul de sac off the main road. We had bicycles and access to the town, vineyards and the Niagara Parkway Trail was easy. The property is lovely, a very large private outdoor area, with hot tub, fire pit, gazebo and lots of seating - the layout made social distancing easy. Our room was large and very well supplied. There really wasn't anything that was lacking. We had a private balcony where we ate breakfast each morning. The hosts had planned exceptionally well for COVID restrictions. There was a beautiful picnic basket for our delicious breakfast, and rules re masks, public areas etc were well explained. We will certainly return!

Beautiful B&B in Niagara on the Lake
My husband and I spend two nights in this beautiful B&B recently and enjoyed it very much. Our bedroom was confortable with a private balcony. We enjoyed the fact that we had access to a mini kitchen, a lounge, a second balcony and a nice yard, an oasis of tranquility and beauty. Many small attentions and the good breakfasts added to our experience. Because of Covid the breakfast was delivered in a basket to our choice of location (room, balcony, yard etc). There is a jacuzzi and a fire pit in the amazing yard. I recommend a stay at Explorer House and hope to go back soon.

We had a great stay, the staff was very friendly and gave great suggestions and deals for local wineries and restaurants/entertainment, the house was amazing! They had everything you could need and more and everything was very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend Explorer House.

The host was abrasive and rude in front of other guests because we do not arrive for breakfast at 9:00am sharp. We were not told that we had to be there at 9:00am sharp. When we arrived after 9 she was rude to us in front of other guests telling us we could not have breakfast. This was embarrassing for me in front of my girlfriend and other guests. She did not even offer us a piece of toast. There were only 4 other guests there having breakfast. She could have been more polite to us.

When you arrived at 10am, and not shortly after 9am as you indicate, we were likewise embarrassed for our other guests, as we were in the middle of assisting them with their plans for the day. Unfortunately those other guests had to wait while we got you coffee - you were offered juice and tea or coffee, as when we ask you if you would like to sit down you advised that you just wanted to take your drinks up to your room. The other guests were not having breakfast as you indicate but had already finished their full 3 course breakfast and the table had already been cleared. Yes, breakfast is served at 9am and we do accommodate those that may come down a few minutes late, but you arrived a full hour after breakfast was served and not a few minutes after 9am. The food that we had prepared for you had by 10am already been tossed into the garbage. We are unsure how you did not know breakfast was served at 9am given you were advised prior to your stay that breakfast is at 9am, and again on check-in you were advised that: “breakfast is served at 9am, please come down for 9 as we serve all guests together at 9 for a full 3 course breakfast”. On a final note, I did not intend to be rude but apparently you interpreted my surprise at you showing up at 10am for breakfast as being rude, for that I apologize. At 10am I thought you were showing up to check-out, given check-out is at 10:30am, and not to have breakfast.

We booked the Explorer House last minute for a quick February overnight for my boyfriend's birthday. It was absolutely outstanding and I wish we had stayed two nights to enjoy the amenities more. Thoughtful little details everywhere, from little doorstoppers, a guest lounge stocked with movies and books, a cabinet with wine glasses available for guest use, snacks and bottled water, a dark washcloth just for makeup removal... these types of touches show an incredible thoughtfulness! I would have loved to spend the day in front of the fireplace reading. The hosts were able to provide recommendations for dinner and were prepared to offer winery suggestions as well. The breakfast was delicious - quite possibly the best eggs benedict I've ever had in my life. We forgot to tell them ahead of time that my boyfriend doesn't like runny eggs and they very kindly made his scrambled instead. We were here in the winter (woke up to a surprise snow storm!) but I can see why it would be an oasis of peace in the summer when Niagara on the Lake gets crowded. Each room was beautifully decorated in an international theme and the photos displayed everywhere were just stunning. I love to travel and I love hotels and luxurious stays, and this met/exceeded my expectations! It's wonderful to know that this place exists about a four hour drive from us - we plan to return for another peaceful getaway soon!
