  • Waldron Lookout, accessible via a spur trail at 1.5 miles up the northern trail. Turtleback Mountain is a wilderness-preservation success story. Recently the target of a development effort on Orcas Island, a popular weekend destination for people from Seattle, it was saved from that fate largely by the efforts of one man and his organization, Tim Seifert, executive director of the San Juan Preservation Trust. Thanks to their work, the mountain is now a wilderness area, in perpetuity. As a bonus, a network of trails is now available to allow hikers and sight-seers a chance to explore the mountain. The trails are beautiful and serene and not nearly as crowded as those on the more popular Mount Constitution, which sits on the other side of the island. There are just a few open viewpoints, such as this one, but they do pack a punch. Beyond that, the forest scenery is just fantastic.

Beautiful house, peaceful and secluded property. Accommodated our family of eight very comfortably. Well-equipped kitchen. Waterfront view was amazing. Family enjoyed deck time for fireplace s'mores, bird and sea life viewing, and general relaxation.

Beautiful Vacation

This was our fourth stop on a family road trip and I would have to give it an overall A. We’ve been to the orcas Islands before and absolutely love them, and if you pair that with this house and such an amazing location, it made for an amazing family vacation. House is beautiful inside, everything is first class and was very impressed with how well it was organized. Would definitely give this house and location a two thumbs up and recommend it to others.

Fabulous house and location

Our group of 6 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hooks Nest. It’s a beautiful house in a perfect setting. We struggled, tho, with the high-tech switches for the lights. And we never did figure out how to use the washing machine. Not sure if this was our user problem or something with the appliance.

Hooks Nest = paradise in paradise

This home is easily the best rental we’ve had. Location was prime, the views exquisite, privacy abounds, it is so well stocked and supplied you’d be hard pressed to find a single item missing and with eight adults and one three yr old we cooked, slept, lounged, bbq’d, sat at the fire and admired the views from every angle and never went without.

Incredible Oracs home

We loved staying at Hooks Nest - this was our second year at the home. The house is beautifully finished, immaculately clean, and well-stocked for a comfortable stay. Sherri, the host, was easy to get in touch with. The view at the house is particularly spectacular - we loved looking out at the water from so many rooms. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Had our annual family vacation at this home. The home was clean and beautiful. Loved the decks and outside fireplace. The view was beyond gorgeous. Home had everything we needed. The whole family will be reminiscing about this year's vacation for years to come.

Wonderful!

Amazing rental property secluded on orcas island. Had a family reunion here and thought it was amazing. Amazing amenities and we will definitely be staying here again. I will say on a hotter day (it was record temperatures in July) it can get hot on second floor because there is no AC. We used fans in closet and opened windows at night (cools off down into the 50s) and we were fine, but something to be aware of. Again I highly recommend this home to anyone traveling to orcas. Dave

Gorgeous Property

This property was amazing. The view is gorgeous. Then add in the home is beautiful and very comfortable. There is everything in the home you would need or want. Even more. There were interesting books in almost every room to enjoy. An added surprise. The deck made the perfect place to read and enjoy the stunning water view during down times. The home is close to hiking and kayaking, so in all, this place can not be beat in my eyes. We want to return!

Best Vacation Rental I've ever had

The house and setting is beautiful. In addition the house was very well equipped with top quality cookware and a well supplied pantry. Beds and bedding were first rate. Perfect house for a big family. I can't think of anything that would have improved our stay!

Spectacular home on the water

The most beautiful home I’ve been to on the island hands down. Incredible views and architecture of the home. The house came with everything, a great kitchen to cook with, multiple places to sit and relax outside, every bed was so comfortable, incredibly clean, activities like games, everything you could possibly need while on vacation. 100% recommend and would stay here again.

Exceptional experience

This property is exceptional in every way. The location is quiet and private. There is the occasional fog horn from the ferry, of course, but other than that, this is a very serene place to be. The house was beautiful. The architectural attention to detail truly made this a wonderful time for my wife and me.

Spectacular home and location

Not only is Hook’s Nest spotless, well maintained and equipped, the home also boasts one of the best views and locations on the island. Peaceful and quiet yet just a short drive to the ferry and town. We all loved relaxing watching the boats go by and enjoying stunning sunsets each night. Everything is in top shape and felt almost brand new from comfortable beds, plenty of linens/towels to well stocked kitchen and excellent outdoor BBQ grill. We look forward to coming again!!
