I've lived in Oxford before, so I was well aware of the prime location of the property. The house is divinely refurbished. Beds are comfortable. Plenty of hot water. The thick walls create a silent barrier between its inhabitants and bustling city beyond its gates. Guests are welcomed by flowers and a basket of goodies. The house is even bigger than the website suggests. We kept discovering its secrets, like another loo on a stairwell, a butler's pantry, and lounge areas on the landings.Understandably, guests are asked to keep fire doors closed, but they are quite heavy to open. There is a fire door to to EVERY room, so be prepared to to perform this respectful duty dozens of times per day.It is a privilege to stay in a 400 year old monastery. We hope to stay there again.
