Started well BUT became a crisis. We locked the keys in the apartment (our mistake) and spent 18 hours waiting for a human to help. The host was sending AI messages (“We understand your frustration and are working urgently to resolve it”) but with no actual human contact or solutions. We took shifts sleeping in the hallway in front of the door because the host told us to be close to the apartment for when staff arrived: 18 hours after we were first in touch about the lost keys, the cleaner arrived and was very surprised when we pushed our way into the apartment to get our luggage. It was clear that he had not been told that we were locked out; since no building manager, locksmith, or other human arrived at any point I have to assume that the host did not do anything to help resolve the issue.
Thank heavens that this wasn’t our last night in Paris: all our of passports were behind the locked door (as were vital medicines).
I recognize that the bad experience started with our mistake of locking the keys in the house— but I am amazed that there seemed to be no way to resolve this and the host let our mistake become a crisis and then an emergency.
