Visit the dramatic ruins of Lowther Castle, 17 miles away, where there are also an excellent adventure playground and stunning gardens. Alston, 11 miles away, is home to cobbled streets with quaint shops and places to eat, as well as an award-winning narrow-gauge railway.

Follow the stone path and through the door into the kitchen, where you’ll find everything you’ll need to create delicious holiday food, including a microwave. There’s a breakfast bar for two people to perch, sipping a morning coffee or chatting with the cook, and when you stroll further into the property you’ll find a separate dining room with handsome antique furniture and plenty of space to gather for celebratory meals. From the hallway, turn left into the inviting lounge, where soft seating invites you to snuggle up with a good book as you admire the far-reaching rural views.
