  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud. Beautiful house on a beautiful river

We spent 4 nights - 6 adults and a 2 yr old. The river views are beautiful. The en suite bedrooms gave everyone space and privacy. The large gourmet kitchen is well stocked- a pleasure to cook! We have family in the area and they joined us for swimming, back yard hanging, and dinners. Plenty of parking in the large driveway. The rocky entrance to the water is tricky, but we managed. (We brought our own kayak and tubes.) We will surely return! I hope there is a dock next time?

Quiet and relaxing with great view

The house was spacious, clean, quiet and the view made it very relaxing. Ash they have Windows facing The Willamette downstairs. One of the best appointed kitchens I've had the pleasure to cook in. All three rooms are Suites with privacy doors between the hallways and other common areas therefore very comfortable on the noise level. There is a great outdoor patio and dining space for multiple people and we really enjoyed watching the geese and ducks play down below everyday as well as the small icebergs floating by in the morning. Would be a great house for entertaining all the way around even Three couples. It would be super comfortable, but I would not recommend it for children as they have a lot of antiques and things that kids might want to play with that aren't meant to be. In my opinion the main could be much, much better furnished. It has the best views of the river in the house but no place to sit and enjoy them and plenty of room as well as no side table lamps for reading or really side tables. They're more like plant stands in the size category. But other than that, we really enjoyed the house downstairs

The VIEWS!!!

Stayed at this beautiful place with family for our daughter’s wedding. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Comfortable and spacious with lots of privacy for three couples. The kitchen was fabulous and well stocked. And the incredible VIEWS of the river, the water fowl, the squirrels are just stunning. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Oregon Trip

This property was a great peaceful place to return to after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. Definitely recommend this place if you will be doing activities all over the area. It was central for us. We were able to do Multnomah falls and other waterfall trails one day and Cannon Beach on another. We also liked the close proximity to Portland for restaurants and shopping without needing to stay in Portland.

Great house

House is very beautiful!! The location is just amazing. It’s right next to the river and extremely beautiful. We just had an issue with cleaning as there was some trash left in the bedroom, otherwise everything was super perfect. Highly recommend the stay here.
