The Salinas Salt Pans in Maras is the most spectacular sight in town of Urubamba. It has been used for salt extraction since Inca times. A hot spring at the top of the valley discharges a small stream to heavily salt- laden water which is diverted into the mountainside pans and evaporated to produce salt. It is beautiful and surreal!
