Seventy-five percent of the world's lesser flamingos are born on Lake Natron. Lake Natron is an alkaline lake in the Arusha Region of northern Tanzania. High levels of evaporation have left behind natron (sodium carbonate decahydrate) hence the name. The alkalinity of the lake can reach a pH of greater than 12 and temperatures at the lake are frequently above 40 °C (104 °F). #Africa #Tanzania #lake

Located near Ngorngoro Crater and Lake Natron, the towering volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai (translated to Mountain of God) towers over the Maasai village that I was fortunate enough to live in for a week. Walking some off-the-beaten-paths around Usa River in Tanzania. The scenery is amazing, with Mt. Meru in the background, almost everywhere. Sometimes one can see the mighty Kilimanjaro as well, or so I hear. Warm and nice, but bit hazy weather as the rain season is about to start. #mountains #tanzania #scenery #landscape
