Good value if you are fit and healthy!
Lots of stairs and no lift - which wouldn't have been a problem 20 years ago, but anyone like me with impaired mobility should be warned! Room door lock was not secure - could easily be fixed. But amazingly clean, comfortable, and good value in a very convenient location.

Had a lovely weekend, our room was a great size and lovely and clean. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was really nice. Staff were lovely and we would definitely stay again.

Guest welcome was poor, no help offered regarding facilities or things to do. Restaurant clearly understaffed, food was awful. Would recommend for a short stay but advise you eat elsewhere. Otherwise staff were pleasant.

Hello SafiyaWe have your review which we find rather odd.We go through the normal procedure on checking in and are very happy to give information when requested. Also, we are directly opposite the discovery centre where you can obtain all the information about the island and what is on.It was myself who spoke to you in the restaurant and asked if everything was okay and you responded with yes. We don’t do awful food and if you are unhappy with the food our response would be to offer an alternative or not charge if the meal is not eaten even if we think the meal is okay.Strikes me that the best way to get a result is to deal with any problems at the time and if not satisfied do a review then.

Spotless rooms, comfy bed, I had a good nights sleep, breakfast was lovely. Horrible door locks. We had a truly awful evening meal in Ghillies the restaurant attached to the hotel...eat elsewhere but I would recommend the Victoria!!

A lovely relaxing stay in Rothesay
Really nice visit. The hotel is ideally situated approx 100 metres from the pier at Rothesay and bus stops and directly across from the tourist information centre. The room allocated was on the 3rd floor and was a good size, very comfortable and clean. There was a small TV and tea / coffee making facilities. Breakfast was provided for £10. Although the choice was limited it was satisfactory for me with cereal, full Scottish breakfast, tea / coffee etc. if I was returning to Rothesay / Bute I would definitely consider a return to this hotel. Thank you for a very pleasant and relaxing stay.

Lovely staff who went above and beyond to make our stay great. We really enjoyed our stay and had an incredible dinner at the restaurant looking over the sea. The hotel was very close to the ferry port and near to local shops so we found it very easy to get around and explore. Would recommend.

Thank you for your review - yes we do not have a lift as it is an old building & unsuitable & all our rooms are situated on the 2nd & 3rd floors. We always do try to help people who are unable to manage their luggage

The hotel has no lift and guests have at least one floor to climb. We had 3 and it is totally unsuitable for disabled guests. There was no onsite restaurant and breakfast had to be ordered at checkin and full payment prepaid. Staff at the recommended restaurant were rude and refused payment by card suggesting I walk 200 yards to a cash machine. We left after one night and are asking for repayment of the other 3 nights. At least you are responsible for not advising guests that the building is not suitable for disabled guests. Disaster.

A review that we did not expect Robert you have given us a terrible and inaccurate review. Yes, we do not have a lift and on enquiry we will always advise on this. As you know your booking was made through a booking site with no mention or enquiry regarding disabled facilities whereas we would strongly recommend if you have certain requirements you make direct contact with a hotel prior to booking. On your arrival we did discuss the situation and you advised that would manage the stairs. We also discussed various options and brought luggage to the room which you were happy with. Ironically there is a demand for the rooms which offer spectacular view over Rothesay Bay. It is wrong to say that there is not on site restaurant. You had breakfast in the restaurant which you did order. We also explained that due to staff shortage we were serving lunch in the ground floor bistro and taking bookings for evening dinner in the Esplanade. I have spoken to the staff in the Esplanade and they advised that you were told that the card machine is not working. You did complain however. I am at loss to understand why when you did pay with cash without need to visit cash machine (which are 30 yards from the Esplanade). The following morning you had breakfast and later came to reception advising that you were going home as you were unwell. We feel that your review is very unreasonable and not factual. Whilst we will always wish to treat guests with respect and look to resolve any issues I must say it does stick in the throat when we read a review which is intended to be damaging and placed in the public domain. Problems!
Unfortunately as a elderly couple the fact that this hotel had no parking ( street) only and the reception is on the first floor and rooms on the second floor but no lift caused us problems

We are sorry that you had problems with your stay - we do state that we do not have a lift & if that does cause you problems you are free to ring the hotel to confirm where the rooms are situated & what parking the hotel has.

Amazing staff
Can’t fault it, clean comfortable and the staff were amazing. Hotel feels like it needs a bit of updating but appreciate how hard this is.

Lovely room overlooking front just minutes from pier head & staff very pleasant. Everywhere very clean. A very nice full English breakfast with staff enquiring whether they could bring more coffee when they noticed cafetière was empty without being asked. No hesitation we would book hotel again if we returned to Rothesay.

OK stay in centre of Rothesay
Sadly didn't get a sea view room, no privacy unless curtains closed, could do with blinds. Comfy bed, good shower, recently renovated so fresh and new but not really fully re-opened so currently no restaurant or full bar facilities.

Thank you for your review and the positive comment. Yes, we have staff off at the moment which does create a problem short term. By good fortune our other hotel which is a two minute walk can deal with guests restaurant requirements. Our rooms are not all sea view so may we suggest that a direct call to the hotel prior to booking may achieve the room and facilities that you want. Hope this response helps.

A Victorian hotel showing its age considerably. However given covid restrictions, lack of visitors, furloughed staff that did not return etc, the few staff that were there were brilliant. Very friendly and helpful and trying to make your stay enjoyable. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Bed was very comfy. Rothesay itself has seen better days and is suffering from lack of investment. Don’t expect anything outstanding and food wise it’s definitely bellow average mostly. Victoria hotel does a good job of food offering but stops at ‘bar food’ offering due to lack of staff. Our stay was good, Bute is lovely and Victoria Hotel staff worked hard to make the best of difficult covid circumstances.

Straight off boat into relaxtion .absolulty brill!
Was a last mintute stay booked the night before .They had the room ready for me arriving at 3pm.lovely room with a few of the port .room was excellant with hot choclate and biscuits breakfast was amazing .friendly staff.can wait o go back for a longer stay

Very good stay with an excellent service from the staff. The single glazing took me back to my Childhood. The meal in the restaurant was superb and exceedingly well prepared. Breakfast was equally as good with very good staff serving this, I will stay there again in the future.

A gem on Bute
The hotel looks tired and unloved from the front and needs painting but inside is a real suprise. Beautiful, clean and with the best views ever. A fantastic stay in a great hotel and definitely worth a visit. I will stay here every time I’m on Bute in future. Brilliant

Room with a view
Well located a traditional hotel that has been made over. We were given a room that overlooked the seaside with great views. Reception was friendly and helpful and also allowed us to check in prior to the advertised check in time. We had dinner in the restaurant as well as the free breakfast and they were both good dining experiences. We would stay there again.

Good hotel in good area but the reception is at first floor level and the bedrooms on on the next 2 floors. Bedroom pleasant but just a foot between the dressing table and the foot of the bed. Tough on the person sled on the window side!

Stay at the Victoria when on the isle of Bute
I always stay at the Victoria when I go to Bute .. its convenient to everything, staff r helpful and friendly and the rooms and bathrooms are spacious

Nice hotel, slightly dated decor but comfortable. Had food in Ghilles restaurant downstairs and couldn’t fault it. Food was very good. Breakfast excellent.

Ideal for the town
Enjoyed my stay I had a single room was clean and tidy, no headboard on bed shower was over bath and was good, food was good even had a real ale on which was great. The building does look a bit tatty on the outside but you can see they are making an effort inside. Ideal for the town short walk to many shops and bars.

A bit old and worn out. During my 6 days there was plumbing problem and the lock on the door broke but both were repaired promptly.
