The spectacular garden is one of the biggest attractions at Stone House. It was built in stages over the last 20 years and is designed to resemble a French parterre garden. With the idea of having something blooming for every guest, the garden usually has numerous blooms in all four seasons. The thousands of bricks that form the pathways were brought in from different places in DC and Maryland – some date to the early 1800s. If you are a bird watcher, you will truly enjoy watching them play in the garden! And if you like nice surprises, you might see some of our resident tortoises that hatch babies in the garden.

𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥 & 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐬 –The garden is backed on both ends by numerous camellias that bloom throughout late Fall and over the Winter. There are various trees that have blooms that last into the early Fall, including Crape Myrtles and Magnolias.

The Bishop Stone House was first built in the late 1700s and is named after William Murray Stone, the third Episcopal Bishop of Maryland who resided at the property in the early 1800s. Once part of thousands of farm acres, it now has 2.5 acres – and they are lots of fun! Enjoy the flat front yard for outside sports, or stroll around the grounds with its many magnolias and seasonal blooming trees. Of particular note are the nearly 200 year old cedar trees in a line, separating the home from the pool and garden.
    ● U shaped driveway lined with liriope and boxwoods
    ● Fence on two sides
    ● In total over 1000 trees and shrubs have been installed over 20 years, bordering the property
    ● Weekly lawn mowing
    ● There are other structures on the property: a boat house, a potting shed and a garage (not available for guests)
    ● Numerous sitting areas, including in the garden, the porch, the patio, and the pool
    ● Children’s fort with mini sand box

    Guest access
The home is professionally managed by a co-host. He responds quickly to texts and calls and can answer any questions that you may have about the home or the property.

The floors also have some uneven transitions between rooms. Outside, be careful on the paths – some of the bricks and slate are uneven
    ● There are security cameras on the property and grounds, these will be turned off when guests arrive and turned back on upon departure with the exception of ones facing the driveway to ensure security
    ● Take all trash to the trash cans next to the garage and behind the potting shed before leaving
