The property was listed as a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom property. When we arrived, we discovered that there was only one bedroom (the other bed was located in the basement, but not in a room). The "2 bathrooms" was actually one room with a sink and shower and a separate "tiny" room right next to it with a toilet/sink. So really, it was more like a privacy door for the one toilet in the home. When I realized this, I reached out to the property owner to see if she'd let me have a refund or at least a discount so that I could pay to put my parents in a hotel (since we were 7 people). She completely ghosted me. I decided to reach out to VRBO and they helped and assured me I would be reimbursed (still working through that process) but that I would have to leave the property that night if I wanted a refund. I started calling hotels and it took me two hours to find one. I then woke up my 14 year old (who was waking up to swim the next morning at 6am in his state swim meet) around midnight and we transported everyone to the hotel. It was not a pleasant experience or the way I wanted to spend a vacation day from work. But at the end of the day, the hotel worked out just fine, my son swam well the rest of the meet (just not on the first day), and we're all happy and healthy. I understand the appeal of using a VRBO for an out of town, 5-day swim meet (with a large kitchen to cook and more space), but am very reluctant to try it again in the future.
