“A hotel well positioned to visit Iya Valley’s places of interests like the vines bridges (single and double ones), the River Cruise, The Koboke Observation deck and the small peeing monk, etc… There are also many good local F&B. The Kaiseki is good and the morning breakfast is local and fresh. The Onsen is also functional and has both the indoor and outdoor hot pools.”

“Great Riokan and facilities. The open-air onsen accessible only by zipcar would be a destination of its own. If you are planning a trip to Oboke Gorge and the Iya Valley, this would be the wisest option. Just consider the CRAZY zigzagging roads made out of impossible curves to drive all around the valley. “Kotohira Onsen Onyado Shikishimakan was 1 of about 8 hotels we stayed at over about 2 weeks in Japan. While all the places we stayed were good, this was the best. Their onsen is outstanding as were the meals. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to experience the Real Japan!”
