Houseboat stay at Srinagar

Royal Dandoo Palace of Houseboat is not a group of houseboats / properties. The owner is operating as a front desk for the deluxe houseboats at Dal lake as earmarked by the houseboat owners' association. So when u book via expedia with Dandoo he only acts as a mediator and gets u a boathouse accommodation on behalf of boat owner. We were first sent to Bhaktoo house boat which was not upto mark for the quality and well as service then Mr Nazir of Dandoo houseboat was kind enough to change our boat the another one called Mughal-e-Azam. The boats are good and exquisite but beyond that neither the housekeeping or catering or food service is at par with even rail yatri niwas. The houseboat stay one pays for the staying experience the food, the linen, bedding, the toiletries, the room service needs to be disregarded and ignored.

Awsme Trip........!

We spent 4 days in Dandoo palace from 4th feb till 8th feb 2014.it was my first time to kashmir. i was worried about to stay in houseboat but after reading the reviews from trip advisor and other travelling web site i booked the stay but I would like to say it was awsme trip. It's very safe place nothing to worry. we went for our Honeymoon and it was great....First of all i would thank to Nazir, Bashir, and riaz all other staff who have provided amazing service. They were so friendly and co-operative. Specially the food was amazing. They also provide you Electric blanket in the rooms. Hot water will be provided you as well. whatever u want like food, cab, shikara ride any other thing you want you will get it..That is all about AMAZING Dandoo palace. I would like to stay here again........! There are few things that you need to take care:- if you are going for shopping and if you hire cab or auto rickshaw and they will force you or tell you that you can go to factory where you will get cheap clothes. please do not go with them because they have their own 20 to 30 per cent commission. I would like to suggest go to Lal Chowk where you will get good clothes. If you want to Eat food specially Non-veg. Go to Zoom restaurant in lal chowk(Lambert Lane) and eat Wazwan kashmiri food which is amazing. i miss that.......!

Excellent location and view.

I stayed at this place for a couple of days in early January. The hotel staff were amazing. The food they make is really homely although a little pricey. The only thing I felt disappointing is the inadequate heating. It was around -6 when we were staying and the room heater was allowed to run only from 6pm to morning 8am. So we were forced to get out of the room and sit near the heater in the lobby.

Terrible Hotel.Please don't book this hotel

It was a terrible experience staying on this hotel.Me and my wife had come for a honeymoon trip to stay at this hotel and staying on this hotel turned out to be a nightmare.The room given to us was not at all deluxe.It was shabby small room just like a motel.The glasses on the bathroom were broken,the doors cannot be locked,the lights were not bright,the room service was awful and the list continues.The fare of the boat ride from the ghat of the dal lake to the hotel was paid by me,which i felt was utter nonsense.Coming back to the hotel,you need to pay special "bakshish"(tip) to every hotel staff and you cannot ignore.Also they were charging for a room heater (Rs.600 for 5 hours only) which is compulsory if you go at the third week of december. Really irritated and would not recommend anyone to book this hotel

Well maintained houseboat with a good view of lake away from the crowd

We had a memorable stay at the houseboat for two nights. The view is very good from the balcony from where one enjoy the serene beauty of Dal lake. They also have a restaurant( not attached to the houseboat) where one can enjoy delicious food. The terrace needs maintenance.The rooms are fine and well cleaned but the illumination is poor.

Very good location in Dal lake, pleasing view .

It was a good experience to stay for two nights at this houseboat with a magnificent view of Dal lake around. One can closely take a look at the life on the lake and enjoy the beauty of nature. Hotel staffs are friendly and helpful too. Mr Bashir will look after your daily needs with a smiling face always. The owner Mr Nazir bhai is always ready to help you plan your travels.

Facilities not given as promised.

The stay was pleasant, but the facilities were not provided as promised. It was promised that continental breakfast will be served but it was only bread and butter. Moreover it was promised that airport shuttle will be provided but it was not. Moreover the shikara charges to reach the houseboat and to leave the same was paid by me.

Bashir Saves the Day

I came to Kashmir for an education/business trip and needed a lot of help getting around, as well as connecting with local schools. My original Srinagar colleague never showed up, leaving me in a desperate situation to complete my work in the short amount of time I had. However, Bashir (RD manager) stepped in and totally saved the day! He worked tirelessly to contact schools/teachers, organize transportation, accompany me on outings & translate. He even helped teach a class to local students with his extensive knowledge of Kashmiri history. I would definitely stay at RD again and recommend it to others if Bashir is there. He is an asset to RD and deserves the highest praise possible.

Het geld niet waard

Slecht onderhoud. Geen generator bij stroomuitval. Geen ventilator in eet- en woonkamer. Sanitair zeer slecht. Beheerder probeert dure trips aan te smeren en blokkeert eigen initiatief.
