No hot water

Nice clean room and comfortable but no hot water couldn't have a shower when I woke up, and no phone in the room to call reception

Shabby and rundown on the outside, but my room was very satisfactory. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location. Very quiet.

Front staff excellent and room was clean. But there was no bar or restaurant or even breakfast. Fortunately a short walk to Penkridge centre and several excellent places to eat.

Staff very helpful on our arrival. Room very comfortable and clean. Short distance away from village for either take away meals or eating in. Convenient for M6.

Good budget hotel

As other people have said, the hotel is looking tired and in need of tlc but we had a large clean room with big comfortable bed. Plenty of hot water and the staff were very friendly and helpful. At a budget price, we found nothing to complain about and would definitely stay here again. Penkridge itself, only a couple of hundred yards away, is delightful, with great pubs and places to eat.

The property itself is very run down, and needs to be refurbished and the exterior grounds tidied up. The resturant facility hasn't been in use for years for whatever reason, so I would suggest the owner should consider creating self catering accommodation as a future possibility. Staff are brilliant, but seem to be frustrated with having to apologise continually to visitors about the lack of facilities.

Quiet dog friendly hotel

What a great find! Charming little hotel that really is dog friendly located on the quiet outskirts of a lovely little town. Really glad we opted for two nights over just the one needed as it gave us a chance to wander the town. The hotel itself is nothing grand, it could do with a little TLC here and there, and its a shame there is no food or bar available. However there is so much in easy walking distance that was just us being lazy. It was comfortable, the room was clean and quite pleasant, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Your next door neighbour is a memorial garden that leads to the church and graveyard, so late night disturbance is rather unlikely. It does also back onto a railway line, but we didn't find it that obtrusive. This will be our hotel of choice anytime we are up here for a dog show on on the way further up north. Only complaint is not down to them its that google will try and send you about 3 miles down the road - which at night means you end up totally lost.

Unsanitary

Not ideal. Used condom wrapper on the desk of first room. We didn’t look further to see what else hadn’t been cleaned and asked to change room. Reception did not seem surprised at the news. No compensation offered. New room was better but bins etc still not emptied from previous guests and surfaces in room and bathroom had a sticky residue. Corridors and stair wells also scattered with used tissues and other litter, large cobwebs and dog urine (which I appreciate is also the responsibility of the dog owners). We had our two dogs with us, and really appreciate pet friendly accommodation but have never experienced that level of uncleanliness. Don’t normally leave negative feedback but this stay was next level disappointing.
