Having spent the summers of my youth and adulthood in the Hayward area, it was just what I expected. The kids (10, 10, & 13) loved the bunk bed loft on the second floor. The lakefront has a sandy bottom which is lovely. The kids were in the water every chance they could. There's a fire pit which we used on two occasions. Unfortunately, around 7:30-ish the mosquitos come out to feast so inside we headed. The screen doors in the side porch actually have a locking function which should be used at night, not for security, but because it creates a better seal on the screen doors to keep the mosquitos out. Another hint, don't turn on the outside door light for the front door! It is approximately 8 inches from the front door and attracts hundreds of mosquitos in the evening. So, getting in or out of the house that way was fraught with airborne peril. Once I turned it off, it was not an issue. The little township of Stone Lake was nearby and good for picking up a few things you might need without driving all the way into Hayward. To the west of Stone Lake township there is Pine Ridge resort which does a wonderful Fish Fry which you can get to go if you want. Otherwise it is 2 hour wait to get a table. We also canoed down the Namekagon River from Jack's Canoe Rental and it was lovely. However, the thing the girls loved the most was when we drove to Frederic, WI, to rent horses from Frontier Stables. The horses were fresh. The trail they lead us on was simply beautiful!
