the property is in a lovely woodland area with lake view but the view was limited with a new high boundry fence.

Where to start, very little choice of drinks behind the bar, I’m guessing due to it closing in a couple of days. Paint flaking off the ceiling . But is nothing compared being locked out of the grounds of hotel at night and not been able to gain access. We had to bust the lock of the gate to gain access, not sure how an ambulance would have got in . The hotel is being prepared to house illegal migrants.

Stunning hotel
The hotel is stunning. Loved the history. Eating in the large conservatory was a joy. The bar was amazing too and grounds just beautiful. Staff could not be more helpful. Thank you. The whole experience helped alleviate an otherwise stressful time.

Really nice surroundings and facilities. The building is showing it’s age and my room was showing it’s age (toilet roll holder hanging off the wall, sealant, old TV). Breakfast really hearty and staff very friendly.

Business trip
One night business stay. Lovely quite location but only 5 mins drive from nearest shops/supermarkets. Better gym facilities than a lot of places I've stayed in with a Jacuzzi & small pool. Very pleasant hotel with nice grounds. Helpful staff. If I'm in the area I would stay again.

The hotel itself is needing some upgrades for example my room door lock was hanging off. Staff were nice and helpful though but sending an email directly to the hotel

Very poor restaurant!
This hotel has possibly the worst restaurant food of any I have stayed in for several years and I am in a hotel for work every other week! In the four nights at the hotel using the restaurant was unavoidable and the food was very poor on every occasion. One night I was served lumps of potato that should have been gnocchi. The head waitress agreed but could offer no explanation even after speaking to the chef. I was told the manageress would speak to me but on each occasion I went to reception she was not available. I was promised an email with some explanations but have received nothing. Very poor!

Clean, OK, and what I needed at the time.
Stay was OK. It was not for fun, family funeral, so that will have impacted feelings. Did not really eat other than from Bar Menu which was OK. Staff were good but as hotel was quiet the Bar was not well manned. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Stayed in Annex building and bathroom had a bit too much silicone which implied that there had been a leak. Think it is more set up for the SPA or as a wedding location.

Nice place to stay with friendly staff
Excellent location for our Good Friday visit. Comfortable bed and spacious room. Food for dinner and breakfast was delicious

Overpriced food (having to pay supplements of 5pounds for a poached egg on top of a £16 breakfast) uncomfortable bedding, reception doesn’t react when called for noise at 2 in the morning. Terrible strain on the employees

Good evening,We do get extremely busy in our restaurant so unfortunately we can not accommodate all dinner reservations request if the restaurant is fully booked, Please accept our apologises. Please don't stay here or you will be disappointed
We paid £165 a night and booked a two night stay for our 7th wedding Anniversary. We asked to change rooms after first night, we would have asked on first night had we not arrive so late at night. I would perhaps have expected this if we had booked a £30 a night bargain hotel but not what we expected from a Macdonald Hotel or Kilhey Court which used to have a great reputation years ago. I should not of assumed, the price and old reputations would equal a great stay. I should have read the very poor reviews which are really truthful. Its dirty, out dated, with terrible service. There are very few staff and not sure if faults lie with local or regional management or both. Really glad we at least read reviews after first night and ate meals we hadn't paid for elsewhere, as we spoke with numerous guests on Sunday morning who were irate as they had waited two hours for food and no one had taken drinks orders all night. The breakfast was really disjointed and at 54 years old, I have never met so many angry and disappointed people in one place ever.

Expensive bar don’t go
No cash hotel but I did receive an email prior to staying but I didn’t see it as was busy at work. This information should be in the details prior to booking. Tried to pay on card in the bar but they had no signal with the card machine so we struggled to pay at all. Also it was £84 for 3 bottles of wine and it’s a little bit out of the way so nowhere else to go

Poor breakfast service
Breakfast service very poor. Staff standing around not clearing tables as dishes were used. We ended up clearing our own table and they just stood and watched!!! Staff seemed content to stand and talk at top of stairs near piano. At £18 a head for breakfast just not good enough.

fab location needs a little tlc attention to detai
after a long journey and it was getting late ordered room service in the bar at 8.30pm hadn't arrived by 9.30 so i rang reception said they look into 9.55 a knock on the door saying these complimentary drinks our ordered had got lost and kitchen was closed even though the chef was stood at the bar when i ordered lovely location just a bit let down +

Wigan stay
Check in only take 2 seconds as they want you to pay after second sentence. Then give you the key and basically ask you to leave the reception. I then have to ask all the relevant questions like breakfast time, spa openings hours and Wi-Fi password. Otherwise, she is not interested in serving. Next!!!
