  • Welcome to Pocosin Ridge. Surrounded by farmland and adjacent to the Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, this property offers tremendous unobstructed views all around. Enjoy watching the tundra swans and snow geese fly overhead in the winter and view the black bears throughout the spring, summer and fall. Completely renovated 3 bd, 1 ba. A touch of modern with the subtle blends of antiques and country decor. Fast, reliable fiber WiFi internet keeps you connected while still being able to step out the door and be away from it all.
    4 miles from Pungo Lake, 1 mile from Pungo River paddle trail, 2 miles from MJ's Country Store (convenience store serving breakfast and lunch), 20 minutes from Belhaven, 30 minutes from the Swan Quarter to Ocracoke ferry. 1 hr drive to the Outer Banks.

This was a fantastic property if you want to see bears and other wildlife at the pungo unit of pocosin lakes it is literally right across the street. The house was clean just as pictured!

This is our 2nd stay at this location and we will definitely be back again. The home is located near a wildlife preserve, noted for its sizable black bear population in the summer months. If you are a wildlife enthusiast or a photographer or just enjoy the outdoors, this is a great option for you. The home is really nice and has all you need for any stay. The owners are wonderful too ! I give it 5 stars and highly recommend !!

Perfect spot for our family

We were able to enjoy a comfortable stay close to the wilderness we wanted to explore. Comfortable beds, CLEAN, WiFi, Had Kitchen amenities that we needed and more, great location!

Excellent Location for Exploring Pocosin Lakes Wildlife Refuge

Situated right on the Refuge Road, the location can’t be beat, but this is also an overall great VRBO. The cottage has been nicely refurbished, has all the amenities you’ll need and the owners are great and went out of their way to help make our visit Spectacular.

Very clean ,3 bedroom ,kitchen Excellent location for bear watching ,nature ,etc .One morning not long after sunrise- looked out kitchen window and saw 300 lb bear in field !

Best location

Great location for wildlife viewing. The house was clean, comfortable, and had everything you could possibly need. Mjs country store has great food to go. We'll be back for sure.

Peaceful Retreat

This was our third time staying here and it was just as great as the first! The house is always extremely clean and well stocked with everything that you will need. It's perfect if you are looking to get away from the stress of life and want to slow down.

Great spot

This house was perfect for us, we were there to see the swans and pungo lake was close by. It’s an older home but decorated cute and was very clean AND there was a loaf of pumpkin bread and jam waiting for us!!

Perfect location!

Perfect location for a nature lover as Pocosin Lakes NWR is directly across the street. House was clean and had everything needed for our stay. Host communicated well and check-in was a breeze. The welcome gift (homemade jam) was much appreciated. Thank you!

We’re headed back in June !!

We have nothing but good to say about this property ! It was clean, roomy, and had every thing we needed in the kitchen. And the location was perfect for us as we are into nature and photography. The owner was very responsive and helpful. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we already booked our next visit. If you decide to rent this home, you will not be disappointed.

Second stay at this jewel and will be back !!

We absolutely love this home. It’s located on a preserve that offers wonderful photography in the winter (birds) and spring (bears) and many other species of animals/birds throughout the year. The home has everything you would want/need - TV, cable, internet, well supplied, outdoor seating and on the preserve. We will be back !!

Nice place to get away

The house is very clean and well maintained, It has a big yard outside with plenty of room surrounded by beautiful farming fields. Equipped with all modern appliances that worked perfectly -made cooking easy and the whole trip so comfortable. Thanks for letting us come back. 5 stars!!

When we arrived, the door code did not work. The host did not answer for an hour and a half. When she did, I was told she had forgotten we were coming. The house had not been cleaned at all. She gave us fresh sheets for one of the beds. It was a very important trip for us, and a very poor experience. Would not recommend.

Can't Wait for Our Next Visit

This is our third stay on Leah's property, and we're already thinking about when we can go again. On two sides are huge farm fields, and the property is on the very edge of the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. We've explored this area in spring, summer and fall, and each time found a different profile of critters. Bears, turtles, birds, etc., etc.. Whenever I write a review of this place I leave out a lot, because we'd like to keep it all to ourselves. Thank you Leah (and family). We hope to see you soon. r&d

Peaceful and tranquil

We arrived late and Leah had left the back porch light on for us. Communicating with her about our stay and our needs were outstanding. She truly cared that we had everything we needed and we couldn't have asked for a more tranquil and peaceful home to stay in. Everything we could have possibly wanted or needed was provided and Leah was just a phone call away if we needed anything. The home was so clean and everything was new and beautiful. Sheveven provided things for my grandkids to play with. They were very happy playing soccer out in this large yard with a ball that Leah provided. Coffee, sugar, creamer was provided and I had everything I needed! Don't hesitate to stay in this warm and inviting home. The sunrises on the porch are spectacular!
