Fun in the Sun

Amazing place and location! Perfect place to relax, enjoy the beach and get around on Daufuskie! The house is clean, nice and perfect for relaxing, going to the beach, pool and hanging out! We had 2 families staying together and we had plenty of room to eat and hang out. highly recommend!

Great house for a getaway

Lovely home, just as showed in all the pictures. Great for a large family or group of friends like we had. We had a couple weird circumstances and the communication and help from Daufuskie Rental Group was outstanding. I would absolutely stay here again.

Daufuskie Dream

Daufuskie was a prefect vacation spot—few people, slow pace, beautiful beach! This home was beautiful and fit our three families perfectly! The beach is steps out the back door and we were pleasantly surprised with the wagon, beach chairs, and toys! We chose this house based on beach and pool availability. So it was very disappointing the pool was not open and that it was never communicated to us that it closed. The kitchen is very sparsely equip and nothing was provided when we asked—no pitcher (we laddled tea from a bowl all week🤣). Management did replace a broken coffee carafe within 24 hours but the kitchen has NOTHING—pack it all: coffee filters (basket), paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, etc. Its a lot of extra planning to get to Daufuskie—ferry, food, transport, cart rental. But it’s very much worth it!!

Paradise

Having already been to Daufuskie and stayed in several different Melrose rentals this house exceeded expectations. One of the newer rentals on Oaks it’s perfect and very comfortable!! Kitchen is well equipped as is the beach toys/chairs. Will definitely be back.

For a five bedroom with 4 en-suites limited common area even watching area.

Really great. Would have liked more beach chairs. Not so easy /cheap to rent additional ones. . Great kitchen. Pool excellent. Surprised at how small common area for tv watching was.

Daufuskie vacation

This house was beautifully appointed - great mattresses! Very clean property / everything a family needs for a beach vacation including a nice selection of beach chairs and boogie boards - even some sand toys for the little kids and direct access to the beach. Nice perk to have a golf cart included since no cars are allowed on Daufuskie. The property manager was very helpful in preparing for the trip and with answering all my emails. It is unfortunate that the resort itself went under during the 2009 recession so it’s a bit off putting at first but the restaurant and pools are again now open so that was great. The uncrowded beach and beautiful home was what we were looking for and this place delivered that for our family of 9 that included Grandparents, parents, and kids. A couple of places to eat / flip flops and shorts casual so no need to over pack but I would recommend you come prepared to cook most of your own meals if you’re planning to stay more than a day or two. Supplies are limited at the 2 places on the island to shop so bring what you need. I highly recommend reserving the water taxi service - they are unconcerned with a large amount of luggage - which we had with 9 people for 5 days. If you are looking for relaxation and privacy - I highly recommend this place. If you’re looking for entertainment and fancy restaurants you probably should go to Hilton Head / which you can see directly across the bay. We’ll be back to Daufuskie again!

Review of 82 Avenue of Oaks

We had never visited Daufuskie before, but the experience will certainly bring us back. It was a wondrous experience, and the house was fantastic -- well-appointed, on the ocean, and in a quiet neighborhood. The only "pick" I have is that the garbage bins in front need to be enlarged to accommodate the trash generated by a family of 11 during a weeklong stay. We experienced "Elsa," and don't want to go through that experience again -- aside from the wind and rain, the loss of power for a day was no fun. Even through all of that, Deborah was in touch to provide reports and check on us. We recommend the house unreservedly.

Great stay!

We had a great time. House was nice and roomy. Perfect for a large group. Kitchen was well stocked. Instructions were provided with great information. Rental company was kind and helpful. One of the TVs was broken which normally would not have been an issue because we were always out doing stuff, but we did have some family members with us that needed the TV. I did let the host know upon check in just so she was aware and didn't think it was us. Turns out it has been broken for awhile and they just haven't replaced it. My husband and I just took that room and gave the other rooms to other family members. Not a big enough deal to ruin the trip. Other than that we had a fantastic time!

Amazing

We just got home from an amazing week at 82 Avenue of Oaks. The property was beautiful and Deborah and her team took care of everything for us! I cannot recommend this property enough! We had kids, friends and family all week and enjoyed all of Daufuskie. It was also great that the pool and restaurant at Melrose just reopened and was fantastic!

May 2021 family vacation

The house is truly beautiful. So fresh and tastefully decorated. We felt so welcomed upon arrival, the TVs were all playing soft music in each bedroom. The house has a wonderful view and easy access to the ocean. Loved this trip. So much adventure each day and great fun riding the golf carts to explore. We all had our own private bedroom/bath. Plenty of space to gather or retreat.

Great house!

Loved being right on the beach and the house is updated and very nice! We would definitely recommend this house! I would be sure to bring extra paper towels, toilet paper, and bring cleaning supplies.

Amazing Spring-break Vacation

If you are looking for an unusual yet amazing experience the whole family will love then going to Daufuskie Island is it. Three families shared this beautiful house on the Atlantic Ocean. Plenty of room for 6 adults and 5 children. Exploring the island and meeting the locals was a lot of fun. The farm, distillery, general store and crab company were some of our favorites. We look forward to returning soon.

Newly renovated home with an ocean view

We enjoyed our stay at Sweetgum Cottage. The house was newly renovated and nicely decorated. We could walk right up to the beach out our back door. We had a great view of the ocean, and the beach was not crowded. A beautiful home in a great beach location. Deborah was very responsive and we would rent from her again. The only reason we didn't rate it 5 stars was that the listing did not overly call out details about the Melrose development in which the house is located. The pool is not operational (and this is not just due to COVID) and should have been more overtly disclosed, as well as the Melrose Beach Club restaurant currently closed (we are told it is reopening under new management in April). The other details about the state of the former Melrose resort should have been more overtly disclosed. We still would have chosen to stay here regardless, we just wished we knew these things going into it to manage our expectations on amenities.
