“This is a Grand Dame of UK hotels and yes it seriously could do with an upgrade and surely that will come - along with a tripling in room rates So yes, it has a bit of a musty feel to it but I put that down to old world charm It’s the people though that make this hotel special and their clear love of this aging queen - service was excellent and their clear morale very high - full marks for trying and also saving this piece of history”

“Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Hotel staff are lovely, I feel sorry for them having to deal with my complaint which manager was supposedly going to contact me to resolve but hasn’t.. No mirror in bathroom, just the broken metal wire it should’ve been on. No hair dryer, iron, kettle or even any kind of cup to drink from in room. No toilet roll holder on wall so toilet roll just left on windowsill. Despite a double room booked only 1 hand towel and 1 larger towel in room. Staines all over the...

“We were visiting for a gig at Piece Hall and are so glad we chose to stay at this absolutely wonderful hotel on the outskirts of Halifax. From the moment we arrived the staff were warm, polite and helpful and this continued for the duration of our stay. As it was such a nice day, we sat in the beautiful garden and enjoyed drinks and food from the bar menu before heading into town for our concert. . Breakfast (extra) was also very good indeed. “We stayed for a week over Christmas. The room was clean, comfy and fairly modern. The staff were amazing; helpful and respectful every time we spoke to them. The breakfast was good; selection of cereals, yogurts, fruit and pastries for a light breakfast. Sausage, bacon, scrambled egg and beans if you wanted something hot. Overall, excellent value for money!”
