Good basic hotel
This is a good basic hotel, think it may be in the process of being refurbished. Had a problem with my room, they changed rooms and apologised profusely. Friendly staff and good full breakfast. I was visiting friends so was out all day.

Absolutely loved the atmosphere and different sitting rooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good, even had a vegan option. Also the cute parrot was an added bonus.

Main complaint was about size of room. Nowhere to sit in room apart from the bed. No bedside table on one side. So eg for the time I had to disturb my wife who had one on her side. In bathroom there were no mixer taps in the sink and traditional ones there did not match and were hard to shut. Mattress did not have enough foam on the springs so one felt the springs. Otherwise car park was good and breakfast was fine. I booked there because one can check in late.

Bon hôtel de passage
Situé dans le centre de Forfar, letablissement est pratique pour une nuit de passage sur un road trip le long (et proche) de la côte. Rien à redire en ce qui concerne les chambres qui offre le standard habituel outre-manche. La chambre edt même spacieuse. L'établissement permet aussi l'accès à un espace détente doté d'une piscine pour se detendre en fin de journée. Un bémol neanmoins en ce qui concerne le petit-déjeuner... En effet, la plupart des composants du "full scottish" semblent avoir été passé à la friteuse et sont gorgés d'huile (même les champignons)

Decent enough place.
We used the Royal Hotel for attending a wedding just outside Forfar. It is a basic hotel which has a pool which was nice enough although the sauna was out of action. The hotel having a car park helps. The room was smallish and the toilet/shower room was a bit cramped. The bed was hard and small. Our Tv was not working but they quickly fixed that.

Quirky hotel, but good for a night, or two.
The hotel is idiosyncratic due to its age, but the staff are excellent, the breakfasts great and the bathrooms small. Being an old building the floorboards tend to creak and some of the doors need a bit of a shove to open, or close.They have lots of odd signs as you can see from the attached photos. At the time of writing the cost of a taxi from Aberdeen airport is £110-£120 each way. The rooms are comfortable. I had thought I had booked a double bed, but I was only offered a room with a single bed. The idea that a single guest might want a double bed obviously was a new concept to the hotel. There was also some issue between the hotel and this website over payment but as I had pre-paid, it wasn't my problem. It's OK for a night, or two and the hotel is right in the middle of the town. Reception is on the first floor, but the whole of Forfar is in a bit of a time warp and appears to be stuck in the 1970's.

Thank you very much for your review. We are in the process of changing the welcome package and felt the small signs just reminded people to register their car etc.. We get many guests that book single for double occupancy and this is certainly not a new concept the confusion arose as your booking that came through from expedia was a single booking we just book the room as requested this was not our issue but was an issue between you and the booking platform. You were offered a double room but politely declined our offer. I am glad you enjoyed your stay in Forfar and maybe the next time you return pack your platform shoes and flairs ;)

Nice stay, but unfortunately the Hotel was a bit noisy and the curtains were very thin so could see the light , maybe a block out curtain would be better.

Every single member of staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We were up before breakfast service and they made sure we had cereal, juice, coffee and fruit. Squeezed us in for dinner even though we were late in deciding where to eat. Everything we needed they tried to accommodate. Food was nice too. Downside is the street noise from people and cars but that's to be expected for a town centre location.

Das Hotel wirkt von außen unscheinbar. Es liegt sehr zentral im Ort und bietet kostenlose Parkplätze. Unser Zimmer hat in keinerlei Hinsicht den angepriesen Bilder aus dem Internet entsprochen. Es war verwohnt, alt und hatte einen 1-Sterne Charakter. Es gab nichtmal einen Schrank, um seine Kleidung aufzuhängen. Licht am Bett gab es ebenfalls nicht. Das Bad war klein und alt. Der Preis für die Übernachtung ist nicht gerechtfertigt.

Thank you for choosing to stay at the hotel. Our hotel has undergone a major refurbishment, all our rooms have benefited from all new interiors and newly fitted bathrooms we do not have wardrobes but each room has a rail to hang clothes. Kind Regards

Nice small hotel with character and a gym!
A great little hotel with plenty of character. What it lacks in moderness it makes up with the enthusiasm of the staff. I spoke with one of the staff and there is a rolling program of upgrades so I can't give it top marks for condition but it will get them I'm assured so.
