This hotel has a lot of classic charm, atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mindset for the place but my room was small and not very functional. They do a lot of things right but the tiny room thing was very frustrating. If you stay here get one of the bigger rooms and you’ll have a great stay.

We wanted to love this. We stayed in the bunkhouse- that was what was available. It was NOISY. Think nyc apartment. The bathroom would use some TLC. Checking in was not friendly or seamless. Seemed like there was not a clear place to go and that we were in the way.

We enjoyed our stay at the Highlander Mountain Home -spending our 25th anniversary there. We hope to return soon. Sarah was delightful and attentive. She provided answers to all of our questions. We had enjoyable conversations with the restaurant manager (and learned of her family’s long history in the community) as well as the staff members - Maggie, Abbie and Graham. The location was perfectly situated in the middle of town. Highlands is a wonderful community with gorgeous nature surrounding it.

We stayed at Highlander Mountain House for our 5-year wedding anniversary and overall the property itself is beautiful. The rooms were clean, the design and atmosphere are amazing, and the location is one of our favorites in Highlands. We also loved The Ruffed Grouse and the overall experience of the hotel. The only downside was the noise situation during our stay. The hotel was fully booked with a wedding party, and unfortunately the guests in the room next to us were extremely loud both Thursday and Friday night, continuing well past 1am. We even politely asked them ourselves to keep it down, but it continued. I completely understand people are celebrating and having a special weekend, but when rooms are this close together, there should be a little more consideration for other guests staying at the property, especially those also there for quiet getaways or anniversaries. I also think the hotel staff should take more precautions when hosting full wedding weekends to help separate non-wedding guests or better manage noise expectations late at night. It honestly put a damper on what was otherwise a really special anniversary trip for us, which is disappointing because everything else about the property was wonderful.

For the off season in NC, this was a good deal for a boutique hotel. It is small and quaint. We were in Room 7 which is TINY and has a European bathroom. We were fine but double check that if it’s an issue for you. There’s live music often in the restaurant and our room is directly above it. We liked the music but if you are looking for peace and quiet, it might not be the best place for you. Also, their Sip and Stay discount DOES NOT APPLY if you book anywhere but their website so just a heads up. They don’t explain that on their website or social media. Maggie was great to work with.

The location is perfect for a trip to Highlands. All of shops and restaurants on main street are an easy walk!

We enjoyed our stay at HMH. The tavern food was delicious, the room was comfortable, and the location was perfect for exploring Highlands. The HMH bikes were a fun way to see the town.

We had a wonderful stay ! The rooms are very safe quiet and cozy. The staff was amazing. Everyone was so friendly. The food was delicious. All the shopping was within walking distance so the location is perfect . We will be back next year !
