  • Location, Location, Location. This is a unique studio located one block off bay front above the Rainbow Jo store in downtown Hilo. It is owned and operated by Rainbwo Jo clothing designer Michele Joy. It is spacious with a Queen bed and a double bed, a private kitchenette, and a full private bath with bathtub. The location is excellent. Walking distance to shops, restaurants, grocery store, health food stores and everything Hilo.

Great location and well stocked quirky and old-school funky apartment! Loved it, and was a perfect base for the three of us for a week in Hilo! Not a fancy place, but had everything we needed and was well stocked and had nice touches like a lot of plugs around! Nice and helpful host, too! Would stay again on a return trip!

This quirky little apartment was perfect for us. Parking is on the street but we did not have a problem finding a spot. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen had everything. We enjoyed our stay. The host was very responsive too. We would definitely stay here again.

It's a little old apartment that's been cleverly well-appointed for guests, with several huge mirrors adding to a sense of spaciousness. The kitchen is small but has everything you need to cook a simple meal: a one-burner hotplate, a microwave, some kind of big toaster oven, a blender, utensils, big fridge and freezer.... With the Hilo farmer's market, the KTA supermarket and a natural food store all a one-minute walk away, we were inspired to do some cooking even though there are so many good restaurants within easy walking distance too. Everything worked. The host was very responsive. This was our second stay here and we hope to return to this, our Hilo home!

Stayed here for a week whilst visiting the eastern side of the big island and loved our time here! It has a 70s/bohemian vibe which mirrors downtown Hilo and is much larger than the photos. With 2 x double beds, a well equipped kitchen and decent bathroom and plenty of space to hang clothes it was ideal for us + you can use the washing machine/dryer in the entrance hallway in afternoon hrs. It’s above/joint on to Rainbow Jo’s shop and staff in the daytime were v.helpful. It’s also situated right by The Palace Theatre, Hilo farmers market and next to a bunch of restaurants, coffee shops and bars in downtown Hilo. There is a bit of noise (vans/general town noise) from the surrounding streets but we’re from a big city so it didn’t bother us! We don’t drive so it was useful to be so close to the bus station where you can hop on free buses all around the island. (It’s worth noting downtown Hilo has a bunch of unhoused ppl knocking around which is sad to see, but they weren’t bothering anyone or us) All in all this flat has been a perfect base for us to explore and if you’re creatives like us and looking for and unusual, retro space that’s great value for money, I would definitely recommend! Thanks for having us!

We had an enjoyable stay with all amenities available that we needed. We don’t end up using the kitchen because those so many places within a short walking distance to find want you wanted to eat. It’s right around the corner from the market too. We loved the speakeasy across the street. Our host was very responsive and made it easy for us in every way.

Colorful! Colorful! Colorful!This is a FANTASTIC little hidden gem right in the heart of Hilo-town. It has perfect vibe for people like us who cringe at the standard resort hotel experience. The owner is also the designer of the gorgeous Rainbow Jo clothing line, and brings her sense of creativity and fun into the rental. The brightly painted walls made it feel like I was in someone’s art project.It’s quirky with an unusual layout, but everything needed for comfort and safety. It’s simple but with little surprises here and there. The kitchen was surprisingly well appointed with all the appliances you might need. Not fancy, but functional and clean!

Short but good stay

Hilo is a small town, but staying here puts you right in the heart of their walkable downtown. It’s very basic accommodations, but I found the apartment to be clean and suitable for my needs.

Everything about this property was perfect! Location is great! If you don’t mind parking on the street (no problems whatsoever with us) this is the best place to stay for couples.

A unique property in a great location

We only needed beds for one night and this worked out well for us. Communication with the owner was excellent. The location was perfect. We arrived after most business on the street were closed, so parking was easy to find. We left before sunrise to get an early start on our sightseeing and drive back to Kona.

This is the second time i've stayed in this apartment. Its a great location close to the theatre and everything downtown. Very clean space and Easy parking. Its nothing fancy, very casual, but perfect for us coming over from Kona for a night or 2.

Amazing Place!

This was the cleanest and best managed place we’ve ever rented! The host was great about communicating and everything was clear. Far better than a hotel. We loved all the extra amenities and care the host put into the property. Close to beaches and great for walking around. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone else staying in the area. We were sad to leave and hope to stay there again soon.
