As a gay couple, receiving two yellow roses (signifying friendship) on the morning of VALENTINES DAY, while all the other women in heterosexual relationships received red roses (signifying romance) felt like a slap to the face. It was another reminder, on a day we are craving intimacy and connection as a couple, that we will ALWAYS be seen as friends. But if one of us were of the opposite sex then the relationship WOULD have been ASSUMED as a couple. And I bet "the girl" would have gotten the red rose. Regardless of the rose- A small gesture that meant no ill will reflected the struggle that all LGBTQA+ couples face with peoples' bias and privilege getting in the way of what could have made us otherwise feel WELCOMED. It is 2026. GAY PEOPLE EXIST! GAY COUPLES WANT TO ENJOY A COUPLES GETAWAY TRIP AT A BED AND BRTEAKFAST. We wont be the first NOR the last. So how about you give EVERY couple a red rose.
