  • Kentucky State University was chartered in May 1886 as the State Normal School for Colored Persons, only the second state-supported institution of higher learning in Kentucky.[1] During the euphoria of Frankfort's 1886 centennial celebration, the city donated $1,500 towards the purchase of land for a new college on a bluff overlooking Frankfort. Jackson as president.[1] Recitation Hall (now Jackson Hall), the college's first permanent building, was erected in that year. KSU became a land-grant college in 1890, and the departments of home economics, agriculture and mechanics were added to the school's curriculum.[1] The school produced its first graduating class of five students in the spring of that year. A high school was organized in 1893. This expansion continued into the 20th century in both name and program. In 1902, the name was changed to Kentucky Normal and Industrial Institute for Colored Persons. The name was changed again in 1926 to Kentucky State Industrial College for Colored Persons.

We stayed here for a long weekend get away and had a fantastic time.The house is gorgeous - old and quirky but has everything you need. The house was probably the best stocked house I have ever rented. Plenty of kitchen supplies and the host even supplied laundry items and plenty of dishwasher tabs. The hot tub was also fantastic - exactly what is needed after a long day touring distillaries.The host was fantastic - there was still A LOT of snow and we had trouble accessing the door because of the snow piles. The owner someone out within minutes to get the snow cleared away.Can't wait to stay here again!

This house was a great place to stay for a few days while visiting the Bourbon Trail. House is well kept and truly unique. Kitchen was well stocked and the beds were very comfortable.The host was extremely responsive. We had a minor issue at check in and it was resolved it immediately. We would stay here again next time we are in the area.

No details were overlooked in this house! It's the perfect spot to visit so many distilleries. Everything that we needed was available in the house, and the decorations and amenities were the perfect compliment to our trip. I can't imagine a better spot to stay for a Bourbon Trail trip!

One of the best rentals I’ve ever stayed in. We had three couples celebrating a 60th birthday. The three separate bedrooms all with a private bath were great. Fans in every room along with good air conditioning was greatly appreciated. The kitchen was great. We loved hanging in the speakeasy one night. Correspondence with the owner was prompt and he went above and beyond for us.

This house is perfect. Centrally located in Frankfort. It was perfect for three adult couples. The house was immaculate. We stayed three nights, cooked dinner, and even used the hot tub. The house has everything you need. Steve was great. He checked in and answered all questions very promptly. Will definitely stay here again when we visit more distilleries. Thanks again Steve.

The perfect eclectic house for a family bourbon tour for all ages!

We loved this home!! So fun and every detail was perfect! When we arrived, the AC was not working, but Steve had someone out there immediately and it was fixed in no time. Top notch service!! The location was perfect and made navigating the area super easy. While the guys did bourbon tours, the girls and the kids explored the local sites, parks, and restaurants. We also went to the Ark our last day. It was a great time had by all!

Distilleries and Horses.

We met family in to tour distilleries and horse farms. This was the perfect spot for our family from the spacious bedrooms and baths. To the kitchen to both hang out spaces and back yard it was perfect. The historical charm and modern convenience were perfection. We loved the hot tub, fire-pit and game areas were great for enjoying the evenings.

Great Stay for My Husband's 50th BDay Trip

My husband and some friends were in town for a golfing and bourbon-tasting tour for his birthday. He said the house was surprisingly large and nicely situated. It was a great spot for a fun weekend with lots of space for their group of four men.

Perfect location

We had a lovely stay in this adorable home. Every detail was thought about in the decor of this house. The location is perfect for those early morning Buffalo Trace runs. Steve was very communicative and responded very quickly. We will definitely stay again.
