So I drove through the night, to get here before sunrise. Unfortunately the trail is closed until the visitor center is open, which was after sunrise. I was able to race down the trail and see why some 120-200 Navajo called this home at one point. It is perfectly placed to get shade through morning and a spring is nearby.

These trees were so contrasted with the red and gold cliffs and ground all around.

As I walked back up the path saw this dead tree. Even though I was only a mile or so away from the actual ruins, I could not imagine walking to and from that every day. It is thousands of feet in elevation gain/loss getting to the bottom of this canyon.

Valley Drive, located near the Utah-Arizona state line in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, is a 17-mile scenic loop through one of the most iconic landscapes in the Southwest, USA. This spot along the road is named John Ford Point, after the director who used it as a location for numerous Western films. Visitors can pay a few dollars to a local horse owner who is stationed in the parking lot to recreate the famous image of a horse rider perched on the edge of the plateau.
