“A wonderful old-style hotel, but well maintaned, friedndly staff, great restaurant, and handy for stays before/after ferry crossings. Seemed a time capsule from the era of mid-20th-centrury grand seaaide hotels real charm. Cateers to a lot of coach tour groups. In central Stranraer for some pleasant seasdie town strolling, dining, and shopping.”

“Everything great, except that when we booked we informed you that my wife had a breathing problem and used oxygen, and also asked whether you had a lift, to which the answer was yes. On arrival we were given a room on the side without a lift, so my wife was obliged to struggle up and down the stairs. On the side where there was a lift, the sitting room and restaurants required no use of stairs. Obviously you decided to ignore our problem for some other convenience of the hotel management. ”

“Old elegant hotel. Yes a bit worn in places but spotlessly clean. Food fantastic. Views and grounds are spectacular. Very dog friendly. Rooms spacious and warm Pool good. No spa. Golf right on your doorstep. Staff helpful. Annie at reception especially so. Lovely walks and close to beaches and cute towns. Lacked atmosphere in the dining room and bar areas. All in all great value for money and a restful few days. Planning to return.”

“It’s an old property- if you love quirky you’ll love it. If you want pristine, you won’t. Food was fantastic for dinner and breakfast. Spent time talking to the owners who are fantastic people- including the son as chef. If character and informal brilliance are your thing go. If not don’t. And the views…..”
