  • The ARTIST'S RETREAT CARRIAGE HOUSE is a Beautifully Decorated one bedroom (King bed) Carriage House situated in a Very Private Wooded setting, at the end of a private road. The TRAILS of ACADIA NATIONAL PARK and the OCEAN are just a short walk from your door. Fresh water swimming at Echo Lake is just minutes away. This CHARMING COTTAGE is just a mile from the Village of Southwest Harbor and 13 miles from Bar Harbor. The Free Island Explorer Bus service is less than a 10 minute walk.
    The living space offers open, skylighted cathedral ceilings; fully equipped kitchen with island for dining, and living room with GAS FIREPLACE; a King bed in the bedroom, and bath with shower and spacious vanity.
    After a full day of exploring Acadia return to the Cottage for GRILLING or RELAX Under the STARS by the WOOD BURNING CHIMINEA. Comfy, cushioned Adirondack Chairs, side tables, Hammock, and Perennial Garden.
    Includes Wi-Fi, satellite TV DVD, Gas Grill and Outdoor Chimenea.
    FULLY EQUIPPED with linens, towels, kitchenware. A Washer/Dryer, Gas grill, storage for bikes, beach chairs, towels, and blankets, are all located on first floor.

Immaculately clean, incredible attention to detail, and excellent communication with the host. I have never taken the time to review a VRBO property before, until now. I could not pass on the opportunity to express how awesome this place is! Best rental property I have ever stayed in, hands down!

This property was so lovely. It was quaint, quiet, peaceful and comfy. The kitchen had everything you could need. The bed was very comfortable as well! The owners were super nice and very responsive.The location couldn't be beat. It is on the "quiet side" so it was much more peaceful and not crowded. The house is set back in the woods but very close to many hiking trails and Echo Lake. Only 20 minutes to the main part Acadia National Park.Everything was wonderful.There is nothing negative to say about this property. :-)

We had a great stay! The location is super convenient to Acadia and we had everything we needed in the house. There was a high level of attention to detail and cleanliness. The owners are easy to reach, happy to help, and super friendly. We arrived to find fresh flowers throughout, chocolates, fancy folded towels, a fully equipped kitchen, a hammock, and a fire pit all ready for our use. I'm not sure what else a person could need for a great stay. For a couple, this is the perfect place to stay for a visit to Bar Harbor, Acadia, or any of the other surrounding areas.

Perfect relaxing location, beautifully well maintained and clean, and the most gracious hosts imaginable. Staying here for us was perfect and a treat.

This place was super clean. Most comfortable bed I have ever slept in away from home. Hosts were so helpful and attended to all our needs. It is so beautiful all around the property. Nice fire pit and comfortable chairs.

Wonderful property!

We had a great stay at the carriage house. Our hosts provided everything we needed and were friendly and helpful. Great location on the “quiet” side and property was as listed. Would definitely stay again!

Relaxing, convenient and in the trees

Charming and comfortable

We agree with other reviewers about the very nice hosts, and the cleanliness and comfort of the carriage house, which is exactly as advertised. Highlights of our stay included walking to a nearby hike and beach, reading in the hammock under the pines, and enjoying the quiet and peacefulness of the location. We would definitely return.

We had a wonderful stay in Maine! Can’t say enough good things about the place we stayed as well as our hosts Cyd & Ken! Acadia National Park was breathtaking! Beautiful setting close to Acadia trails

Lovely setting- peaceful woods and you feel like you are in the canopy of trees. Located near southwest harbor on the “quiet side” of mount desert island. Highly recommend!

Perfect

The home was comfortable and had all items needed for a great stay! Ken and Cyd were absolutely amazing. Even with less than ideal weather they made our vacation relaxing and enjoyable with their wonderful home and hospitality!

Charming Bungalow

Lovely upstairs suite suitable for two people. Management folks were gems: friendly, very attentive, and helpful. Site's location is in a quiet area with walking and easy access to coastal sights.

We booked this VRBO for our trip to Acadia National Park, and it exceeded our expectations. First, I want to mention how wonderful Cyd was as a host. She is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.The carriage house is beautiful and perfectly suited for a couple. It was spotless, well-equipped, and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The thoughtful details and personal touches throughout the property really set it apart from other rentals we've stayed in.We enjoyed cooking several meals, taking advantage of the grill, and relaxing around the fire pit in the evenings. The property is surrounded by trees, providing plenty of privacy and a peaceful setting away from the main road. During our stay, we even had deer and wild turkeys wander through the area, which added to the charm and natural beauty of the location.The comfortable bed, in-unit laundry, and overall amenities made it feel like a home away from home. Having stayed in many VRBOs over the years, we can confidently say this was one of our favorite places. It's also an excellent location for exploring both Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.We highly recommend this property and would gladly stay here again.Jeff & Karina

The carriage house was perfectly equipped and decorated. There were lots of small details that added to experience and atmosphere. Cyd was an outstanding host. She was very welcoming and hospitable. She was responsive and VERY helpful with local recommendations. There was lots of material available, to inform your exploration of Acadia National Park. We had a great visit!

We spent a wonderful week on MDI and Ken & Cyd's carriage house was perfect. It's a very comfortable, immaculate, and well-equipped place for two. It's in a great location just outside of SW Harbor and the rest of the "quiet side". We walked every day, including one day directly from the property to the trail that takes you to Somes Sound. Totally recommend.

Wonderful place!

This was our 7th year returning to MDI but our 1st year staying at the Carriage House. Wonderful place. Quiet, peaceful, exceptionally clean, everything you could ask for. Ken and Cyd are wonderful hosts. We will be definitely returning to stay at the Carriage House.

Cozy, beautiful little place

Awesome Carriage House

My husband and I chose the carriage house due to its proximity to Acadia. We were very pleased with the accommodations and amenities. We also met Cyd, who was so warm and welcoming. Cyd and Ken provided a list of off season restaurants, which was so helpful for the time of year we went. We would definitely stay here again if in the area!

Perfect Carriage House

This cottage was so beautiful! It feels like you are in the deep woods, when you are just a couple of miles from the harbor. Great spot for seeing Acadia and all the other harbors around. We enjoyed having a fire in the fire pit. Cyd and Ken were perfect hosts. We hope to return someday! Vacationing from Alabama.

Wonderful cottage- Great location- Perfect for all our vacation plans!

The cottage house is wonderful- super clean and cute, and completely equipped for all our needs. My husband and I were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary- and had a great time! We could come and go for each day's adventure in Acadia and the surrounding area. We'd love to come back in the changing seasons!
