We took an unplanned impulse vacation for Thanksgiving on Baja’s East Cape. While researching the East Cape, we discovered the Hotel Vidasoul, booked it and arrived the next day. The original plan was one night on the East Cape and then to drive on up to La Paz, but we never made it. We stayed 3 extra days at Vidasoul, enjoying a different adventure each day. The caves in Los Arbolitas, part of the National Marine Park just South of Cabo Pulmo, offered amazing rock formations, caves and great snorkeling. Next day we hiked to the Falls and Hot Springs up in Santiago. That was enough driving for us so, on our last 2 days we walked on the beach, rode horses and mountain bikes, and just relaxed and enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets, which were phenomenal. The whales come in very close in this area and we got quite a show on our day.
The food was very enjoyable an all you can eat Thanksgiving made it just like home. When we ate everything on the menu, the chef just started surprising us with his secret recipes. The Margaritas were great, and we tested several different kinds of tequila we’d never tasted before.
The hotel is an architectural feat in the middle of nowhere, dependent on solar and all kinds of other alternative systems. You can meet some very interesting people just sitting around in the restaurant, bar or patio. We had a blast and will return for surf season in the Spring.
