And although there are experiences for days and even weeks, if you go with limited time, these are the three essential places to visit in Yucatan.

Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula

This incredible Mayan city is easily accessible from Cancun and is one of the great treasures of Mesoamerican culture.

You can know the:

  • The Kukulkan Pyramid
  • The Temple of the Warriors
  • The El Caracol Observatory
  • The ball game

In its time, this city was the most important in the Mayan world in politics and religion and was  declared a World Heritage Site  by UNESCO in 1988.

To get to the area, you can take one of the local tours to take advantage of the day and learn more about the Mayan culture. If you decide to stay until night, you will witness the light show that takes place and increases the splendor of Chichén Itzá .

Also known as the “White City”, it preserves the splendor and beauty of the colonial era in Mexico. Upon arriving in Mérida, we immediately felt transported to another era with its aromas, colors and textures. This city allows us to get to know the Mexican culture in depth through the various events that take place throughout the year. Among the most important are:

  • The tattoo festival
  • Day of the Dead
  • The carnival of February

As if this were not enough, we must remember that Mérida is one of the safest cities in the country, it has vast lodging options and a very varied and unique gastronomy.

The Balankanché Caves

Impressive Balankanché Grottoes

Another example of the Mayan culture is the Grottos de Balankanché . Recognized as one of the most important underground areas in the region and in which it has only been possible to explore one kilometer of trails. Its entrance is located 200 meters from the Throne of Balam, where you can also see a semi-dry lake with all kinds of offerings. Inside the caves, you can find religious figurines, offerings, metals and religious elements.

The most impressive thing about this sacred place is its interior filled with stalactites that offer a natural spectacle of water and light. In addition, you can see a light and sound show that tells the Mayan history and mysticism. They are located less than 10 kilometers from Chichen Itza.

Yucatan, an entrance to another world

Undoubtedly, there are countless tourist places in Yucatan and it is one of those places that opens the door to a new dimension. Each element of this place seems to be designed to take its visitors to worlds already forgotten, achieving a life experience.
