“Beautiful hotel with an amazing history. Upon arrival we received a very warm welcome, the staff were exceptionally friendly and very helpful throughout. Our room was prepared by Lindsay, Jo & Sally and they did a remarkable job it was immaculate. Extremely comfortable king size bed and the shower was fab, superb water pressure. Great bar area to relax in before dining and the breakfast choice catered for everyone. Thank you for a wonderful stay and most certainly we will be back. ”

Excellent position , just minutes from the Essex Univ. and also from downtown...., but the problem is at night, drunken people shouting and making a lot of noise inside and outside of the hotel. “The staff were attentive and friendly, room cleaning and restocking was on demand and was efficiently done when we wanted it. The room was at the top of 3 floors, with no lift and a narrow stairs. This would have been a problem if we had been disadvantaged in any way (or just much baggage). There was a late night fire alarm incident where all residents gathered in the reception. The staff did not really take charge and were not sure about how to cancel the (false) alarm and had to call someone...

“Overall a good trip, all the staff are super friendly and the 2 issues I had with the room were sorted quickly. Bed was comfy and large, lots of space in room so didn't feel cramped in. Bath and shower both worked well. Only 2 negatives really, the sound proofing in the rooms is terrible, even though I was on the opersite side of the hotel to the main road I could hear road noise all the time.
