We arrived to be told that they had no record of our booking. Even though they had twice sent an email confirmation. At the very last minute we had to find somewhere else which cost considerably more and was 2 miles out of york. Totally ruined our weekend. Their excuse was they dont use expedia any more. The hotel looked pretty shabby anyway. Parking was a joke and the owners were not very apologetic at what had happened

The gillygate was not far from the minster ideal location. Staff where hel0full and friendly we would definitely recommend the gillygate guest house .

Stay Here!

It was a great stay! The room we were in was amazing! The bathroom was modern, shower was great, and the bedroom was large with a comfortable bed. Owners were very nice and accommodating. Highly recommend!

Due to a problem caused by Expedia, our booking was confused. Cheers However Mark, our host, could not have been more helpful and allowed us to stay in a holiday let on the other side of York. An equally good location and we had the place to ourselves. A great spot from which to explore York’s Minster, Jorvik Centre, city walls and River Ouse.

Stayed here for 3 nights. We were made very welcome by the lady of the house who was very friendly and also very knowledgeable about York. Our room was on the first floor. The bed was comfortable (I suffer from a bad back) there was a sofa also for seating, a TV and a shower room en suite. the room was plenty warm enough and I actually opened to windows as we have just had an unseasonably warm February. We had a very good breakfast each morning and there was plenty of it served down stairs in the dining room. The guest house is located within 10 mins walk from the train station and very close to the Minster and the City walls. We will certainly return to this Guest House.

Not very happy, will not stay here again

Although the original place we were staying in was not available we were given a replacement accommodation which we were told was more convenient and of better quality. However we were not pleased the area was extremely noisy and we did not feel very comfortable in the guest house, we didn't even receive complimentary milk to make a drink.

Gillygate Guest house is the place to visit.

Our 4 day Christmas visit was a real pleasure and made so by a most welcoming atmosphere, excellent breakfasts, and very helpful hosts. We will most certainly return to this guesthouse on future visits to York, and recommend it to others.

Good value, good location

Good value B&B, owners could not be more helpful. Mark even came with me in my car to find free parking space as the hotel spaces were already taken. There is only limited parking available behind the hotel.

Great guest house!

The guest room looks just the same as the picture put up by the host. The guest hotel is owned and run by a cute couple Mark and Joyce, they are very kind, considerate and willing to offer help to the extent they can. Great location, great host and hostess, great breakfast, great room. One thing that can be improved is the slow shower draining, had to stop in the middle of shower to let the water go. But generally great place, will definitely recommend it!

Wonderful little guest house

The owners were very friendly and helpful. We arrived in the morning and we were able to leave our luggage there. The location is very convenient, as the town center is just a short walk away. Our room was clean and spacious. Unfortunately we had to catch an early train, so we were not able to have their breakfast, but the selection looked wonderful.

Lovely room, comfy bed!

Lovely room with all the necessary amenities! Super comfy bed, nice breakfast. Nice location! We were right around the corner from the Three Legged Mare and heard some Great local talent. Be aware there are multiple stairs to rooms; not sure if there are main floor rooms.

Overnight stay in York

If you're looking for a comfortable bed and somewhere central for the City of York this is the place to stay. Very comfortable and convenient guest house. Within 30 seconds walk of the City gate. Also has parking at the rear of the property. Very friendly service and nice full English breakfast. Although very near the centre we found it quiet even though Saturday night.

Great location

Enjoyed our stay at Gillygate. Very central location and excellent hosts Mark and Joyce. There is parking, which is at a premium for the area. Mark parked our car for us and was very helpful and attentive throughout our stay. Joyce es very kind in allowing us access to our room before it was turned over from previous guests. We left our bags and returned to a made over room. Our room was very quiet considering the flow of traffic on the other side of the building. Our room was tired, but functional and a fan was provided to help keep us cool. For the price we paid, around £75, we consider that value for money.

Lovely experience!

Gillygate was a delightful B&B! The room was recently remodeled and very clean. The host was so very helpful and very warm and friendly. The WiFi worked perfectly and the breakfasts were very good! We will book this one again if we visit York anytime in the future.

Basic room very close to city center

We had a bit of trouble checking in, along with some confusion about breakfast being included or not, but it got sorted out and all worked out. The staff was very pleasant. The room we had was spacious with two huge windows that opened out to the street. The small tv was in an awkward spot but we weren’t there for the tv. The bed was low and of average comfort. The shower was small but water temp and pressure were good. I’d recommend this hotel for its location and price.
