“We had a fantastic stay at the Bear’s Den for Labor Day week/end 2025. The owners have done a wonderful job of making this a fantastic up north getaway in the woods. It was so peaceful and relaxing while also having all you need in terms of modern amenities. There were 7 of us plus a dog and we were all cozy and comfortable. “We stayed here for 1 night on our UP road trip but wished we would have stayed more! The cabin was super cute and clean and had plenty of space for our family of 5! The kids loved the kayaks and playing in the water. We enjoyed the fire pit that night. The convenience store on the island was great and has a lot of what we needed. We would definitely love to come back and stay longer next time.”

“We were very happy with this place. It was nicely decorated, clean and laid out well for what we needed. We loved the live edge bar, fireplace and view of the lake. We also utilized the grill on the deck. There was plenty of parking as we had a truck with a boat trailer and a second truck. We would not hesitate to stay here again.”

“We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The kitchen is well-equipped, and we cooked almost every night without any issues. We also really appreciated being able to bring our small dog, who loved the new smells in the backyard. With the exception of the occasional car passing by on the nearby road, there's hardly any noise. That, the sauna, and the lake make it easy to relax.Depending on when you come, make sure to bring bug spray.”

“My partner, dog and I came to sugar island to experience a new place in the UP and we will certainly be returning to Sweet Retreat!! Sheri and Jeff were the most accommodating of hosts and truly go above and beyond to ensure everyone’s comfort and fun. We used the bikes on the property and were lucky enough to take a pontoon cruise with the hosts our last night. The cabin was absolutely adorable and had everything we needed. I couldn’t recommend staying here enough! We can’t wait to come back!”

“We stayed for a week with our three kids (11, 15, 17) and had an AMAZING time! Found plenty to do within 60 minutes, and also enjoyed 3/4 days just hanging at the house. The beach was better than we imagined, watching the freighters was a family affair, the ferry was a breeze and evening fires on the sandy beach was a favorite. We also saw the aforementioned red fox on several occasions, which was cool. We brought our kayaks and loved taking them out. Would love to plan a return trip!”
