“For the price paid the room was very good, the bathroom great size, the lady working behind the bar was friendly and engaging, very quiet area, we have stayed here before, and perfect for one night, the front of hotel looks really nice, shame the weather changed as would have been nice to sit outside, we had evening meal which was very nice, didnt have breakfast so cant comment on that, plenty of parking available Check in and out was very easy,( reception could have been a bit friendlier), not...

“Beautiful room and en-suite in a lodge with four others, tucked away at the back of the garden. Very comfortable. Especially appreciated two armchairs, decent size fridge and small outside area with table and chairs. Evening meal in the pub was also excellent. Lovely beer garden and attentive hosts. We didn't have breakfast as making an early start but ordered a packed lunch which was very handy.”

“My second visit in 2 months based on my first, very positive experience. Again I booked the dinner, bed and breakfast package for a similar value to a bed and breakfast stay elsewhere. I was given a room on the ground floor close to the dining area and rear entrance which suited me fine. Parking was easy and dinner was tremendous. I went for the same walk to Chawton. A great night's sleep was followed by a great breakfast and I left again very fulfilled with my accommodation experience.”

“I expect that no one from Expedia had visited this 'hotel' basically a pub with four rooms. They were tired, decoration poor, carpets grubby, toilet was noisy (Macerator) no breakfast options at all and very expensive, £95 per room!”

The unseasoned steak I ordered didn't see the inside of a frying pan at all and the breakfast was a bit low on the portion side of things considering it was about £11 per person. Quiet location and slept pretty well but I always search for a hotel with a gym however expedia needs to start filtering hotels like this out as a basic room costing into 3 figures and then im being asked to pay to use the gym which is totally out of order in my opinion. “I needed a place near the Saxon sites and Cathedral. And it didn't hurt that the Westgate was just a five minute walk from the rail station. It's an old place, and it had the feel of the ages in the floors and doors. But that was part of the overall experience for me. It had charm. The staff was very accommodating, and I had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Westgate. It was all good. And it was across the street from the medieval Westgate to the city as well. I would stay there again if ever...
