Great family getaway
I took my 17 yr old son for a 4 day getaway in early August. In my opinion, this is a great place to take a family and not worry about meals or finding things to keep them busy. Don't expect a Ritz Carlton. You'll get clean rooms, decent beds, working AC, and clean bathrooms. Meals are simple cafeteria style. Even if you don't like the main options or the sides, there's an adequate salad bar. There's no way you'll leave hungry. Gluten free is available. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. They pull quality young individuals from all over the world who really seem to enjoy being there. Activities are plentiful and there's several options for everyone. There are plenty of hiking trails, kayaks, sailboats and other free activities to keep you active as well. Or just simply lay around on the beach area. The lake is clean and beautiful. If you plan to do a lot of activities, I'd bring a mountain bike (and helmet) or similar. Some places you may go have coarse gravel not friendly to a road bike. You can always take a half day trip to Meramec Caves, full day to St. Louis, or golf. Very limited cell reception and only in certain areas. Wifi is free, but streaming netflix/hulu/etc is probably not something you want to rely on every time. No tv's in the room. Bottom line- We will definitely return but probably bring our own kayaks and paddleboard to explore more. Using their kayaks, you can only paddle in a specific area.
