This place just 3 minutes drive from the A595, 20 mins drive to Wasdale Head and convenient for various surrounding pub restaurants. The house is a beautifully converted old school furnished with comfortable bedrooms, gorgeous gardens, outdoor seating and a lovely conservatory where we had breakfast watching the birds outside. We spotted a woodpecker and several blue/great tits. It was so quiet and peaceful at night. Lesley is a friendly and attentive host eager to ensure we had everything we needed. We arrived to home made chocolate sweets, tiffin cakes and schnapps in our room and gin & tonic cakes the next day after our walk. We left with some delicious peanut butter and nut fudge for our walk. She also does a packed lunch with some amazing sandwiches. There was a fridge with fresh milk in the corridor handy for storing drinks. The breakfasts were delicious and you could have pretty much anything you want. I've read some reviews online and I think a few of them especially from some non-UK visitors were rather unfair. It seems that they were a little unrealistic in their expectations of this place asking for a local bus or train service and complaining about it being remote and quiet. Wasdale is all about all about 1) the tallest mountain - Scafell Pike 2) the deepest lake - Wast Water - with its haunting surreal beautiful scenery 3) Walking (plenty of it as most of the tallest Wainwrights are all here) and 4) Sheep and I loved every minute of our week.
