I booked this cottage expecting a peaceful, clean getaway. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed by the standard of cleanliness and privacy.Cleanliness: The cottage was covered in animal hair, dust, and cobwebs. I have asthma and allergies, and the amount of pet dander was excessive — I expected some, being a farm property, but this was far worse than reasonable and made my symptoms flare up badly. There was no hoover or proper cleaning equipment provided, so I couldn’t even attempt to clean the worst of it myself. It genuinely felt like the place hadn’t been deep cleaned in ages.Privacy: There are no doors on the bedrooms, no lock on the bathroom, and there were no blinds in the upstairs bedroom or the kitchen. This made it really uncomfortable, especially with the house and hot tub right next door. The thin walls meant I could hear guests Nextdoor not ideal for a “retreat.”Safety/maintenance: The fire alarm was broken and just hidden away on a plank of wood. This felt really unsafe. There were also spider webs and broken furniture (like the bonsai pot, which was already damaged when I arrived and got broken further during my stay).Other issues: There is no recycling bin inside, and it was confusing to figure out where to put rubbish. Communication from the hosts was curt and unhelpful, especially when I tried to notify them about deliveries, towels, or other issues.Overall, I left feeling more stressed than when I arrived.
