Double Booked and Canceled One Hour Before Check In (!!)
I booked this property well in advance, only to have the reservation canceled just *one hour* before check-in. The reason initially given was “unforeseen circumstances,” but after contacting both the hosts and VRBO, I learned the property had been double booked.VRBO confirmed this issue should have been caught at least two weeks earlier, especially since I had reached out about extending my stay. That was a clear opportunity to flag the conflict, but nothing was done. Instead, I was left scrambling to find last minute accommodations in an unfamiliar city, with limited availability and higher costs.To make matters worse, the individual I spoke with by phone, apparently representing the hosts, was unhelpful and only superficially sympathetic at best. The apology felt more like a casual script than a genuine acknowledgment of the inconvenience and stress caused. There was no real empathy or accountability offered.Even after the cancellation, I continued receiving automated messages as if I were still staying at the property, including check in instructions and other updates. It was yet another sign of how poorly the situation was managed.I’m sharing this so future guests are aware of the risk. This kind of disruption is avoidable, and I hope the hosts take real steps to improve their booking oversight and guest communication moving forward.
